does not come with required cables.......2007-08-29
Audiovox does not supply the cable you need to connect your portable DVD player to a television set. This means you have to buy, separately, a male-to-male RCA cable just to watch a DVD on this player on TV.
Audiovox D7000XP 7" Portable DVD Player.......2007-07-20
Yes, it does have digital picture frame software, but the screen resolution and display quality are really poor. If grainy, offhue display are okay (and for kids to watch in the car is what I'll use this for), then this unit may be acceptable. But if you want to show off decent photos, look elsewhere.
Some good, some bad.......2007-07-17
First, the product description is incorrect. The product does not come with a "Car Headrest Mounting Bag and carrying case." There is a headrest mounting *strap* (not bag) and a separate carrying case. On the bright side, the lack of bag makes it easier to change DVDs while mounted. I'm also unsure what "complete car cabling with car adapter" means. The unit comes with a cigarette lighter plug-in (car adapter) for auto use. Any other "car cabling" that would make it "complete" is a mystery to me.
The Good:
The price. This is the least expensive DVD with swivel screen and included battery that I've been able to find. The product does play DVDs, music, and photos as advertised. The carrying bag is cheap, but appreciated. Why don't more manufacturers include at least this simple accessory? I haven't tested the battery life yet but if it truly lasts 4 hours that will be an excellent feature.
The Bad:
The battery is external. I know that most are external, but the product description should be upfront about this. When playing DVD's at low volume you can hear the DVD spinning noise. Resolution for viewing pictures is poor, and loading time is poor (with a card right out of a 6 MP camera). If you like to wait and hear a buzz while your photo loads, this is your photo viewer. I assume if I resized the photos they would load more quickly. Why would I want to do that? The remote is a nice feature for auto use, but it would be nice if a "power standby" (off) feature could be activated from the remote (other players do this). While you can navigate a DVD using the remote you need to reach over to turn the power off when you are done. You cannot turn it off using the remote. This is a pain for a parent controlling the DVD player from the front seat. The manual is poorly written, but what one isn't these days?
Overview:
You may wonder why I'm giving it 3 stars even with so many complaints. I was looking for an inexpensive DVD player that had a swivel screen, an included battery, and that could be mounted on a headrest in a car. This was one of the few options available that had all of these features--although via a headrest strap rather than a bag. I have only owned the product two days and cannot comment on its durability.
just got it.......2007-07-04
I just received this unit after waiting 8 weeks on back order. So far it does everything I had hoped for. It doesnt say it in the spec's but I just put in a dvd-r data disk that I made to back up my photos and it started playing a slide show of them. Looks like a great way to show photos to friends. It does the same thing when I connected a 4 gig thumb drive to it with photos on it.

Great hard drive..No problems.......2007-12-16
I have had this external drive for about a year and it works great for what I need. I am using it to backup files from my iMac. I would recommend it.
Crashed.......2007-08-27
I bought this external twice. The first time; it crashed. I thought maybe I did something wrong by leaving it on often, so I gave the product the benefit of the doubt and bought another one. It crashed also. It makes the same sound as the first time it crashed... I just here clicking and can't access anything. The good news is the external gives hints about when it is going to crash. A few files on the drive will not open and will give an error asking if I want to reformat my disk.
Died at about 15 months!.......2007-04-11
I have backed up all of my pictures on this hard drive and it's a good thing I have them on disk also, because it died after about a year and a half! I'm very disappointed that THIS is supposed to be my backup in case something happened to my computer and it died! Not to mention that I spent $160.00 on this worthless piece of junk!
A good, but bulky drive. .......2007-02-01
With drives, time is the true test. I've only had this for a couple of months, but so far so good. I partitioned it, formatting part of it in fat 32 to work with both pcs and macs and the rest to work with macs only(where I do most of my work). It's nice to be able to connect to my old pc that only has usb 1 and then later plug into my mac pro and watch the files fly off the drive. My main disappointment with this drive is that I thought it was closer in size to the firelite. I also wish that it could run on phantom power like the firelites and ipods.
worked for a year.......2007-01-06
After falling in love with this product and trusting it with my valuable data, it has started damaging the files. Now I cross my fingers wishing this or that is not damaged and a lot is... I don't know what to trust now!!!
