Amazon.com Product Description
Offering a downright amazing feature set for such an affordable price, Cyber Home's compact CH-DVD 300S makes a rich and promising starter player. You get everything from top-of-the-line progressive-scan component-video outputs to built-in MP3 decoding, JPEG image viewing, and 3:2 pulldown for viewing movies in their native frame rates.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the CH-DVD 300S stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
With 3:2 pulldown support, the player corrects for a common distortion in DVDs when 24 frames-per-second movies make the leap to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown removes the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
A set of multichannel analog-audio outputs routes decoded Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals to your audio/video receiver. Dolby Digital and DTS signals can also be channeled through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a surround-featured AV receiver. The player has left/right analog audio outputs, too.
The CH-DVD 300S is compatible with DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW media, handling just about any recordable disc you give it. It can even play both PAL- and NTSC-formatted discs, handy when viewing non-region-specific European discs. Other features include motion zoom, screen saver, last-disc resume, and repeat play.
What's in the Box
DVD player, AC power cord, multi-function remote control, remote batteries, and a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect.

no joke.......2007-12-04
I bought the little "ch" about 2 years ago at Odd LOts for 27.50 Ive never had any trouble with it at all. IT palys all regions and has a good picture. It has composite ,"s"vidieo and componet outputs. Can be set to progressive or interlaced scan. If you have a good high quality dvd the picture will amaze you at this price. I think Cyberhome has gone out of business though. Solidly built with all metal chassis. remote is a bit small but o.k. recommended.
Excellent DVD Player.......2007-11-26
Purchased this DVD player more than a year ago only to play some VCD's/DVD's which I got from India. Works like a charm. The litte guy plays every single Disc that you pop into it. It has taken over the role of the Primary DVD Player after my more expensive Daewoo died on me.
I would definitely recommend this to everyone.
Great basic player with a perk!.......2007-11-24
My husband and I put DVD players through their paces as our TV is used almost exclusively for DVD viewing since we have no cable or satellite service. In the past four or five years we've gone through three mid-priced players; when they were subjected to our rigorous (and disc-after-disc) viewing they soon developed issues with skipping, not reading, humming, and overheating. We also are fans of foreign films and rare editions, but have never been able to afford an all-region player.
We heard tale of a great all-region player that could be found on Amazon for well under $75 and thought it was too good to be true. But as our DVD player at the time sounded like a mini helicopter every time we watched a movie, we were willing to try anything! It arrived super fast and we were pleasantly surprised at how compact the unit is (not as thick as a Harry Potter book, but wider). The first thing we did was set it up for all-region coding (instructions were included) and gave it a test run with a European disc -and it worked! So did a disc from Japan! Wonderful!
Bottom line, it is a great little basic DVD player with a fantastic all-region perk. It doesn't record or have a clock to set (but we haven't missed that), but has held up to our rigorous routine for over a month now and we couldn't be more pleased. Even the remote is nice; simple, not too thin, and all the buttons are clearly labeled. If you've always wanted a basic player and the ability to watch foreign discs but couldn't plunk down the extra cash, this could be the perfect player for you!
Fine, but no legs........2007-11-02
I bought this for its no-frills cheap price about 9 months ago and it gave me about 30 hours of pleasant, satisfying viewing time. Then it whimsically refused to recognize any instructions from the remote. (Replacing the battery made no difference.) Most important, it refuses to turn on, and the power button on the front doesn't change anything. Worse, there is a DVD inside and I can't open the tray, so I'll have to destroy the little bugger to retrieve my disk. Don't bother with it. Pay more and get something reliable.
Cheap Chinese Electronics.......2007-11-01
Like many other purchasers, I was impressed by the low ($39) price, Region Free and PAL capability when I bought this DVD player 2 years ago. It just inexplicably stopped working yesterday. Looking up Cyberhome, it seems the trademark and domain name is up for sale(?). 2 years and throw it away seems to be the world we live in. Are there any DVD players not made in Asian slave factories?

Houston, we have a problem........2007-12-10
I have had this firelite for about 6 months and one day it just wouldn't mount on the desktop. I use this on a regular basis - back and forth to work in a Mac based platform. It would light up when plugged in, but would not mount. I've searched google for answers - try it... you'll see I and many others have the same issue. Suggestions have been to change the USB cable to one with 2 ends because it uses too much power. It's a tragedy when you loose valuable work to to cheap technology. I would not recommend this to anyone - well maybe an enemy.
reliable, fast, and simple to use.......2007-11-28
I've been buying these drives for my Mac-based design department - we have 7. No problems with any of them. We all take the drives back and forth almost every day so that we can work on design projects at home and at the office. I put mine in a zippered pouch (no padding) and shove it into my bag along with everything else, so I would say it's pretty tough for its size.
For the student who gave these a bad review because 2 drives had the FW ports burn out - HELLO, it could be a problem with your computer!

I am in the market for my second one of these. Compact, quiet, and reliable. Keep your computer clean with one of these.
price/performance winner: reliable and cost effective.......2007-09-24
I own many of these and I recommend it to the many users I support. In a price/performance comparison, they are the best value around. For better performance you may want to build a SATA on firewire 800, but for the average user, a very good deal. Highly recommended.
failure........2007-09-10
after having this drive for only a couple of months both firewire connection ports went dead. and the drive would not mount. I returned the drive, lost my data, and received a replacement.
now, after having the second drive for a couple of months, again, both firewire connections are dead. drive will not mount... all data unreachable.
the drive was never dropped, was kept in a case... and handled very gently.
I am a cg student and need to travel daily with a large capacity drive.
this is not a reliable drive! do not look at it sideways or it may implode.

The absorption peak is in the range, which corresponds to the film's green spectrum. This means outstanding outdoor shots with superb color balance and clarity under all conditions.
