This Onkyo DV-CP704S changer plays DVD and CD discs in a variety of formats. It's ready for play on widescreen TV models that are capable of 720p or 1080i resolution (through use of optional HDMI connectivity). 192 kHz/24bit AD Converters: Costly, extremely powerful digital-to-analog converters , that not only boast a dynamic range of 120 dB, they process information faster and are virtually resistant to clock jitter, to ensure the best possible performance from DVD-Audio, DVD-Video and audio CD.
HDMI: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) This high-bandwidth interface supports not only brilliant digital video, but digital audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of data—more than twice what's needed for a high-definition movie with surround sound—can be handled, with room for future requirements. All this data is kept in the digital domain, as there are no D/A or A/D conversions needed, to ensure the highest sound and video quality available.
MP3: This audio format achieves about a 10:1 compression over conventional CD audio. What does this mean? You can store many more songs using the same amount of space. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in MP3 format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.
RI (Remote Interactive): With Onkyo's exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What's more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo's RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can't be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.
WMA: This audio compression format from Microsoft® allows you to reduce the size of your audio files for storage on your computer's hard drive or portable devices. This allows you to store many more songs than with uncompressed CD audio, using the same amount of disc space or memory. For example, a standard 650MB CD can hold more than 200 songs in WMA format. Various bitrates allow for higher or lower quality, depending on the desired sound quality of the final recording.
DTS Digital Out: DVD players with this logo are capable of transmitting a DTS digital signal (in coaxial and/or optical format) to a receiver or processor. The receiver or processor must be able to decode DTS signals to properly reproduce the audio.
Dolby Digital: DVD players with this logo are capable of transmitting a Dolby Digital signal (in coaxial and/or optical format) to a receiver or processor. The receiver or processor must be able to decode Dolby Digital signals to properly reproduce the audio.
JPG: JPG is a standard image format used in today's digital cameras and personal computers. DVD players that carry this logo are able to read CD-R/RWs that contain JPG image information and display slide shows on your television (such as recent vacations, family photos, etc.).
Progressive Scan: By ""painting"" an entire frame at once, scan-lines commonly associated with interlaced video are drastically reduced. The result is a spectacularly clear image with no motion artifacts, and details so sharp they seem as if they're etched onto the screen.
VLSC: Conventional D/A conversion methods reduce digital pulse noise at the conversion stage but can't remove it completely. Previously only found on our high-end components, VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) employs a unique D/A conversion circuit to overcome this problem. Data is converted between sampling points and these points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result — a virtually noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source to bring out even the most subtle of nuances in your music, movie soundtracks and even MP3s.

Onkyo 6 Disc HDMI Player DVCP704S This player provides excellent CD audio with near High-Def / HDMI DVD playback. Although the CD-related functions are not as varied, perhaps, as a dedicated player, the available functions are well suited to playing a complete album or "party" background music.

This is a gorgeous looking piece that fits all the functions I needed it for: DVD player, CD player and photo CD viewer. Other than a little slowness upon starting and changing discs (this gets annoying quickly), I find it quiet and reliable. I have an Onkyo receiver, and I'm pleased that the component is compatible so I can use only one remote to control both. Even if you turn the player completely off, it remembers the last place you were at in the DVD. Another quibble -- the screen display of titles and such is quite small, so keep your glasses on. But overall, you'll be pleased with this investment.

Amazon delivered but Maxtor didn't. The ethernet drive seems to work ok but the software is really outdated and sub-standard. I have un-installed it since it really doesn't do much and it puts an obtrusive icon in the sys tray that is hard to delete. The XP backup software seems to be much better than the Maxtor software and that's not saying much. It's noisier than I hoped and if you turn it off, you have to use the browser interface to get it so the computers on the network can "see" again, everytime.
I wish, just once, the product description would accurately portray the real situation instead of some idealized situation. It does operate though and store files.
Would I buy it again? Probably not but I'm not going to return it, that would be a real hassle.
Reliable network storage under Vista, reasonably fast.......2007-12-05
Having tried the usual range of USB drives and then the cheap NAS solutions (read: Netgear SC101) I was tired of the endless overheating, connection losses or spinning drives.
I wanted a few ethernet drives that would support UPnP (feeds media to my XBOX 360 and PS3) and that I could dump in the basement without ever having to go down there to reset or start the drives.
I found a good deal on 2 of these and devided to take the chance. This is about 8 months ago.
I run high quality video from these drives and feed it to my consoles and the video and feeds are error free and smooth.
The drives spin down when not in use (customizable)and are back up in 10 secs when needed.
The drives work well under both Vista as well as XP and, per my earlier comment, the UPnP support is great. In order to make it play ALL file type (XVid, DIvX etc) I use the free tversity program (excellent too!!!!).
Anyways, basically had these drives on for 8 months and with heavy usage an no problems with the network connections or speed. Even moving large GB+ files around is doable.
The part I do not like is the interface to the drives. I never can figure out what to set where and it takes fiddling around. Worth ducking a point for since they could have at least fixed that with firmware but never did.
Ipso facto: I am pleased with these and they make a good starting place for securing your data. Backup features are good and reliable.
"Idiot" software interface, not Leopard compatible.......2007-12-03
All I really need to say is this is the typical Maxtor support = advertise "effortless backups for Macs" only to find the hideous Maxtor Easy Manage software is not compatible with Leopard. The Matxor site specifically lists under requirements "OS X 10.3 and above" - not true.
The Easy Manage software is anything but - it forces you to confuse "user accounts" with what are really shared folders. The software is so dumbed down that it actually makes the drive use completely counter-intuitive.
All you want it a fast NAS that you can create a shared folder on, see it on your OS desktop and be accessible from the networks. Not some goofy NAS For Dummies interface that forces you to click obscure + signs and pop-put menus, connect buttons that fail to actually connect more than half the time.
The drive itself is loud and hot. I use Gigabit ethernet with it and it is far, far slower than my OWC firewire drive, despite no other network activity.
I have never managed to get the USB printer sharing feature to work in OS X Tiger or Windows XP. The Easy Manager software sees the printer attached but refuss to allow any machine to print to it.
I am returning this junk and am just done with Maxtor products.
Don't waste your money on this disappointing drive.

I have been looking for an easier way to protect the front my my lens without having to either take off my lens hood or trying to fumble around with the lens cap with the hood still on. Op/Tech came up with the solution! All you have to do is stretch the proper size hood hat over the hood and everything is protected and ready to go. Super easy to take off, putting on takes a little more time, but you never miss a picture putting it on anyway. Basically this is an inexpensive way to add some extra insurance against getting dirt, water, etc on your front element while you are walking around looking for shots. It is also very flexible and easy to stick in a pouch or pocket when not being used.
