Samsung's stylishly black DVD-R135 puts the power, quality, and convenience of digital video recording and playback at your fingertips. The stylish, slender component stands less than 2.5 inches tall but delivers everything from convenient DVD recording (write-once DVD-R and rewritable DVD-RW) to progressive-scan video and playback of MP3 music and JPEG digital-photo files. It's also an "upconverting" DVD player, which boosts the standard 480 lines of resolution from a DVD disc up to a high-def 1080i (interlaced) picture. This unit also offers CM (commercial) advance, enabling you to skip ads from recorded TV programming recorded.
A front-panel DV (FireWire IEEE 1394) input enables you to connect the family video camcorder and edit and record footage directly to a DVD disc--all via a single cable and without losing image quality. The EVQ (Enhanced Video Quality) feature provides sharper images and truer color reproduction for both movies and home videos. EVQ reduces pixel noise produced during digital signal processing, mitigates the cross color phenomenon occasionally produced by separation of Y & C signal.
You can program recording via the timer, or choose easy one-touch recording (initiating playback at 30 minutes and adding 30 minutes with each additional press of the button, up to the available disc time or 240 minutes, whichever is sooner). Chapters are created when you record your favorite TV show or video clips from a camcorder onto a DVD disc. The chapters are automatically created, which eliminates wasted time searching the whole DVD to find the right spot. Up to 99 titles can be recorded onto one disc. With the simple and easy edit function menu, you can delete, copy, rename, and lock, among other things. You can also create a playlist and edit video in a specific sequence.

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

Was good for a while - horrible after a year.......2007-11-10
Bought our DVD-R135 in July '06. Worked very well for about a year. It started not recognizing DVDs this summer (2007) and even after the cleaning disc was run through it, it stopped recognizing brand new DVDs. Have to turn off the unit multiple times and run the cleaning CD through 4 or 5 times to get anything disc to come up now. Going to the store today and definitely won't be buying a Samsung replacement model. Sadly it matched our Samsung TV and entertainment center :( The unit is in a very clean, well ventilated environment so dust and heat are not the cause. Seems like just poor workmanship.

I have bad experience with "Samsung DVD-R135". I just used it 4 times (recording) not playing - Now it is just a decoration.
Samsung DVD-R135 - TRASH!.......2007-10-18
This is the absolute biggest piece of trash I have ever purchased. I have owned it for 10 months. I purchased it from a retailer and at the time, it was the most expensive one they had in stock and the salesperson claimed I would be very happy. I want you to know that it has never worked reliably. After the first two months, it stopped recognizing DVD's altogether. I complained and sent it back to Samsung. They "repaired" it and sent it back to me. It worked intermittently but I just lived with it until it stopped recognizing DVD's again. I called Samsung again and after being put on hold several times, after talking to a supervisor they still refused to replace it. They want to repair it again and they have the audacity to ask me to cover the repair cost because it's "out of warranty". ABSOLUTE BS!!! They gave me the address of the president so that I can write and complain. I'll do it but I have no confidence based on the customer service I have already dealt with, that Samsung will make this right. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT! UNLESS YOU PLAN TO PURCHASE THE IN-STORE PERFORMANCE PLAN WARRANTY I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU NOT BY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY EITHER!!!!!!

I have to chime in with many of the other reviewers here and tell you this is not a product you want to own. To be fair, I will say that when it works, it works well -- the upconversion is great. But the key word is "when." The DVD recorder just stopped working, and while this is extremely frustrating, it is okay since I don't record a lot. However, a few months ago it just stopped reading DVDs -- and I just got this for Christmas '06! You have to power off several times, open and close the player several times, and sometimes it will finally read the DVD. I would toss it, but this thing cost $200! Be forewarned.

Samsung DVD-R135 DVD Recorder
I bought the dvd player 8 months ago and used it, may be 1-2 times a month. It went bad already and doesn't play dvd's from even Blockbuster. Called up the customer service and they cannot help it either, other than asking me to shell out another $60 to get it repaired. Seems like its not a trust worthy $170 product to go for. Please make sure of the warrantee's before you buy. The only positive thing about this product is that, its picture quality is good, if it plays :)
