The DVP-NS55P DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.

Home Theater Compatible
The player is compatible with Dolby Digital and dts decoding and includes 96KHz 24-bit coaxial digital output and a 193 KHz 24bit audio digital-to-analog converter for analog RCA audio output. On the video side, it features a 12-bit video digital-to-analog converter with 108Mhz processing for a sharp image.

After three other dead DVD players, I used 'word-of-mouth' research and finally chose this model Sony. I have had it for six months. It has had no issues playing any DVD or Cd I put in it. I am very pleased.

We have really enjoyed this DVD player since buying it several months ago. We had the same audio problem that others mentioned when hooking it up, but since I had read the reviews here, we fixed it in a snap. I recommend this DVD player without reservation.

After years of purchasing cheap DVD players and becoming frustrated when they worked so poorly (often stopping or garbling the best scenes in movies), I researched the reviews of best DVD players and Sony hit the mark. It is an excellent DVD player and has played movies perfectly every time. Well worth the cost!
Six months and no problems.......2007-08-12
I like this player.
I use Netflix, and thus I am frequently watching movies that have been watched by others dozens of times. Despite this, the Sony player hasn't skipped once any one disc! Compared to previous players I have had, I am very satisfied in that respect. Also, the remote and the menus are easy to use.
My only complaints are that it is nearly impossible to "rewind" a DVD; that feature just doesn't work very well. And if you want to play a MP3-CD on this thing (get a mix of 100 songs or so), it won't let you play them at random.

It won't respond to the remote. (I know the remote is working, because it controls my other Sony DVD player) Furthermore, the front panel display works only intermittently.
I will now see how good the seller is about taking it back and giving me a full refund. (I just went to Walmart and got an NS57p for the same price.) I'll post on how helpful they are. If they make it easy for me to send back for a full refund, I'll give the seller a top rating. Otherwise ....

It's awesome. I pratically have all my folders in that drive, my computer runs quickly after I move my videos, music, pictures to the drive. The best part is that I still have left over space alot of left over space.

The Media Drive is great. I use it to store many many of my pictures and my music. My computer was on overload with the pictures. Yes, I can put them of cd but it is much easier with the Media Drive instead of having to insert a cd everytime that I want to print. Also it is not fun at all to dig through cd's. Thanks to HP and Amazon, I am a happy individual.

Great for digital and film both.......2006-12-28
If you can find this lens, it is probably the best "normal" fast lens you can find to use on your digital SLR. The 28mm focal length translates to 42mm in digital perspective, which is just about right for most shooting. The F stop of 1.8 lets you do something you couldn't with film - shoot indoors without a flash. The reason film didn't work is because the colors are always off. With digital, you can adjust the color balance to be perfect without light-reducing filters. Besides, with the variety of flourescents used today, the color on film never comes out right. However, when used on a film camera, you now have a FAST wide-angle lens that will stop action. Lenses like this will become rarer as manufacturers make "digital-only" lenses (see the Sigma 30mm F1.4 for example). An additional benefit is that this lens is not overly large. It needs 58mm filters (not 72 or 77 like a lot of slower zooms do), which are a lot less expensive. Don't confuse with the newer Sigma 28mm F1.8 Macro, which uses the larger filters (and therefore is a lot larger lens). If you do your shopping, you can pick this jewel up for less than 200 bucks.
Very handy lens........2000-12-01
I love this lens. It is very good for indoor photography , because the relatively wide angle it covers lets you take in what is happening in an enclosed space, and the speed lets you hand hold your camera without a flash. It autofocuses quickly, and is plenty sharp. Because it's wide angle, the depth of field at large F-stops isn't hideously narrow. Well worth the money.
