Product Description
The DVP-NS75H single-disc DVD player offers 720p and 1080i upscaling through an HDMI connection (High Definition Multi Media Interface). HDMI allows the transfer of uncompressed digital audio and video signals to other HDMI equipped components, providing an uncompromised picture. It also features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, which delivers accurate and vivid images to the television. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include a 12bit/108MHz video DAC (digital to analog converter), and 24 bit/192KHz audio, providing high-quality video and audio processing for vivid images and crystal clear sound.

Sounds stops in middle of movie!.......2007-12-17
Most of the time im pretty unhappy with the results of the upscaling on my 40" samsung and then just 3months into owning the player my sound started cuting off about ever hour or so into the movie. You most eject the desk to get it working right..Pain!!
Slow...Very Slow.......2007-11-26
I have always been a fan of Sony products, but my faith is waning.
I bought this unit to replace a dead Sony which lasted many years.
I do not have HDTV (yet) so I can only vouch for the performance of the unit and not on the picture quality.
As the title states, it is SLOW. Slow to open and close, slow to load the DVD content.
In addition, it seems prone to hang up and kid's videos from Netflix (i.e. scratched), so in that regard does not perform better than its predecessor.
I would seriously consider a Samsung or some other the next time around. And pay better attention to the reviews.
It's Not HD But Very Close.......2007-11-06
I bought the Sony DVPNS75H as a gift to my daughter, who'd just purchased a 42" Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV. It hooked up very simply via an HDMI cable purchased separately. The upconverting seemed to work fine. The picture was very sharp, sound excellent. By mid 2008, true HD DVD players will be all over the marketplace at under $100, so I'd hold off buying any DVD player that isn't true HD. An upconverting DVD player such as the Sony DVPNS75H is nice, but why not get the real deal for the same money.
Plays Everything!.......2007-09-20
I have had this DVD player for about 5 months and I am nothing but happy. I bought it for the upconverting feature which provides amazing results, but the biggest benefit has been that it "plays everything". I have three other DVD players in the house and often run into difficulties playing recorded media or DVDs purchased used. This Sony hasn't failed to play anything I put into it. I was hesitant to buy any Sony product other than their TVs. I have owned Sony computers, phones, personal CD Players, car stereos, and home stereo components; all were junk or failed prematurely. This unit is giving me renewed hope in Sony.
I also own a Samsung upconverting DVD player. The pictue quality is good, but it is very sensitive to media and querky in the HDMI connection. For the same price, Go Sony.

Exactly what I needed.......2007-11-07
I bought two of these for alternating off-site backups (I clone my hard drive), and they work perfectly for what I need. They come complete with a little velvet bag for carrying (more protection than you'd think, I've dropped each a couple of times with no problems--admittedly, from only a couple of feet), and an extra USB power cable, in case your computer (mostly laptops) doesn't give enough power through the regular USB cable. They are small, easily carried and stored, lightweight, and sturdy. And I've had excellent customer from LaCie in the past, they are very good about replacing drives even if they can't duplicate the problem.
The only two caveats I have are first, the first full cloning takes a long time (Firewire is faster), and second, without a Firewire connection you can't boot to a Mac, no matter what's been copied, it won't work. This isn't a problem with the drive per se, but something you should be aware of. However, as I said, I bought these for offsite backups, I have a Firewire drive for emergency recovery at home already. I'd give this 4-and-a-half stars if it were an option!
Terrific External Drive.......2007-10-17
This drive was easy to use. No setup or installation required. The small size makes it ideal for travel. I also loved that it is powered by USB, so no power cord is needed. Great product!
Great Buy!.......2007-07-09
I love this drive. Looks nice. Works great. And I like the plug and play function between Windows and Mac computers. The Silverlining program is great for working with any Win98 friends (yes, they're still around).
The only CON is a rather superficial one. I thought from the picture (and Porche name) that the drive's casing would be a silver plating... or aluminum or something shiny and fancy. It's only made of plastic... shiny plastic. HAHA! But I overlooked this when faced with the ease of use it presented. So overall it's a great buy. NO REGRETS with this purchase.
Compact and capable.......2007-04-10
Having this product allows me to safeguard my data in the event of a crash. Anyone who has crashed a computer will appreciate saving information that otherwise be deleted during a OS re-load.
