The player also performs 3:2 pulldown through its progressive-scan output. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
Other connections include S-video and composite-video outputs (composite-video is switchable as an input), and a switchable analog audio input/output. An optical digital-audio output lets you hook the player up with an audio/video receiver and multichannel speaker system to enjoy immersive DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround from your discs (optical digital-audio interconnect not included).

When I saw this for $99 at K-Mart last year, I thought I had found the answer to our almost-1-year-old son's hatred of car trips. It felt pretty cheap & flimsy, but worked well, and played everything we put in it (even library DVDs that were pretty beat up), but the power cord connection was ALWAYS loose. Then about 3 months ago, it quit working completely--the AC adaptor didn't work, the battery charger didn't work, nothing. Luckily, my brother-in-law is an electronics wiz, and he was able to get it working again in about 5 hours of fiddling (and I didn't have to pay the $59 repair fee--plus shipping--Cyberhome quoted). However, our last car trip last week was IT. Every time we went over a tiny bump in the road, the cord fell out. I'm looking for a new DVD player again!`

We left all our cords and adapter on an airplane and they couldn't find them, so we tried to find a new adapter to hook it up in the car and no place around had one that would fit. Lots of places sold some that fit most DVD players but not this one. So we went to the Cyberhome webiste and with shipping it cost $55 just for the one adapter, I felt that was rediculously over priced. The average price of the adapter that fit most other DVD players was only $15. Next time we get a DVD player I will makes sure we can easily find new accessories to fit it so we don't have to spend a fortune.
Excellent widescreen portable region-free DVD player (with remote code).......2005-08-22
The CH-LDV 712 is a very sleek player with a 7inch LCD. The remote has mute, volume controls, brightness and language/subtitle controls among others. You can turn off the LCD if you use it to listen to CDs.
Here is the Region code hack found from VideoHelp.
1. Turn on your dvd player using the remote control
2. open the tray
3. press the "stop" button on your remote
4. enter 1999 using the remote & a special menu will pop up.
5. select the region code as indicated using the remote (set it to ALL)
6. confirm it, using "enter" key on remote
7. leave the menu using the "return" button on your remote
8. close the tray
It is great for learning foriegn languages and you can find non-region 1 discs at Amazon's other sites such as France and Germany.

Dont buy. I had it 2 months when it stopped working. Its the plug when you insert the power. Its broken, and the battery will not charge, it looks like the other connectors (video) are broken too. Very cheap

BUYING ANY PORTABLE DVD PLAYER IS A REAL GAMBLE. I RECOMMEND BUYING ONE FROM SOMEWHERE WHERE IT IS EASY TO RETURN IN CASE YOU HAVE PROBLEMS.
You should be able to find this at a much lower price. Most stores sell it for around $129.
Buying a portable DVD player is a real gamble. You might buy this and not have any problems at all. Someone else might buy it and have all kinds of problems. It is not just Cyberhome that has varying quality, it is all brands. If you look up the reviews of other portable DVD players on Amazon, you will see that they all get positive and negative reviews.
This unit looks cool and has a very nice, sturdy metal case. But, the latches are made of plastic and very flimsy. The button that opens the door broke on my first unit, and I had to replace the unit. On the new unit, the button looks just as weak and I would expect that it would break eventually if I kept it.
The biggest problem I had is that it would not play all my DVD's. I am talking about standard, store-bought DVD's (not DVD-R's or RW's). For instance, it did not play Monsters, Inc. I could not see anything wrong with the disc, and it played OK on all my other DVD players. It would not play about 30% of my DVD's.
This problem with not playing certain DVD's happened on both units I had. Monsters, Inc. would not play on first unit I had, or the replacement unit. So, I returned the unit and got my money back. I will now take a gamble with some other brand.
The resolution and picture quality are not great. I have not compared the picture quality of these portable DVD units, so I don't know if this is typical of all brands. But, I was a little disappointed in the picture quality, when comparing it to the screens on airplanes or in cars.
The only other downside about this unit is that it does not have very many functions on the case, so you have to use the remote control if you want to do something like jump to the next chapter.
I bought this unit because it advertised the longest battery life of any unit I have seen. It claims to get 4 and a half hours on one charge. I didn't keep the unit long enough to time the actual length, but it is certainly well over 2 hours.
It comes with almost everything you would want, including a car charger and remote control. If it played all my DVD's, it would be a pretty nice unit (as long as I was real careful with the buttons).

I wish 'real' programs would run from this drive. My main issue is that it works in some XP computers and not in others. The cursor just 'flashes' at me forever when I plug the drive in. Great idea, not so great execution.

I bought this product to update from my older 512mb drive I've had for a number of years (also a Pny Attache, which still works with no problems except that it's a small capacity), and I am extremely satisfied at this point. I did a speed comparison on my laptop and the new drive is more than twice as fast as my old one. There's no extra software needed with this, which is wonderful because it becomes extremely tedious when I have to install software every time I buy a new piece of equipment. I can back up some work on my drive and can take it with me anywhere and can work on it wherever there's a computer available.
Of course, the 4gb size for less than $40 makes this well worth the purchase. I won't need to upgrade again for years, and by then there should be drives with 8 times the size available for the same price.

This is the second I've owned. The first one, I lost, no fault of it though. The lanyard is very secure without being cumbersome. It has worked with every machine I've used it in and I've never had a single issue with it.
