Do not buy a Panasonic DVD Player. Lasted 14 months, and then I got the dreaded H02 error.

Like most other people, my panasonic DVD player died on HO2 error too. I have used it only two years and I could never expect such short life span. After I searched about HO2 error on the google, I found that it is the most common error occuring in panasonic dvd players within two years. Further more, fixing cost is more than new one.($89.99 for labor cost + shiping and handling) When you buy DVD players, do never buy DVD players with Panasonic logo.
Died last night after 15 months.......2005-11-11
Had this DVD player for about 15 months. Last night, I put in a DVD, and the menu came up for the movie. All of a sudden the machine shut off on it's own. I turned it back on, and as it tried to read the DVD, it shut off again. I did this several times, and even switched DVD movies. Every time, the machine shut itself off. When I took the DVD out of the tray, and left it empty, the machine would stay on and say "nodisc" of course. Put in another movie, off it went. I've trieed to unplug it for 30 minutes, blew in it, tried a cleaner disc...NOTHING.
Panasonic tells me I have to turn it in to an authorized dealer, but I told them forget it. I've already checked and it will cost more than a new one.
I was wondering if anyone ran into this problem?[...]. Thanks.
As for Panasonic, I think I'll buy a Sony tomorrow.
Died on an HO2 error.......2005-07-08
My unit was manufactured in April 2003 (mine just died last night). Mine had average to below average usage. I am very dissapointed in this unit (and Panasonic's support). Who in their right mind is going to pay $100 to repair a 2 year old unit that only cost $89?
In my opinion, Panasonic chose a substandard part in this unit and will not make good on replacing it. A big thumbs down for me....
H02 Error for me too.......2005-05-11
I too had the H02 error after about 18 months of flawless performance.
Since everyone is having the same problem at about the same time, is it reasonable to suspect engineered, PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE? Maybe just poor product.. Panasonic wouldn't make so much money if you didn't spend $100 every 1-2 years on another DVD player. Think about it..
Like a few others, however, I am again watching movies on my S35S after taking it apart, blowing in it a bit, fingering and jiggling the gears a bit, and putting it back together (we were going to throw it out anyway, why not play with it freely beforehand? Make sure to unplug it first!). This solved the problem, at least for the time being - may have to do it periodically from now on. I'm too poor to buy a new one every year, so I tinker.
The actual problem is that the spindle-motor stopped turning, thus the laser cannot read the initializing track of a disc to determine that a valid disc is indeed present. Hence, "H02"(Must be Pana-Geek-Speak for 'farked up'..), and finally "No disc."
To be accurate and honest, Panasonic should - instead of "H02" - have their DVD players display a scrolling marquee "P4n450n1k PWNES j00!1@!11one" because that's what they're doing to us with these cheap motors designed to fail at 1 to 1-1/2 years.
Upon opening and observation it was obvious that the spindle motor/flywheel thingy was unable to turn freely, too much friction to get started apparently, too "sluggish," it just simply hummed before disengaging and giving up. Perhaps it needs a bit of re-lubrication; just lightly touching the top of the spindle housing/cover (specifically, the white round thingy that resides above the disc) made it start spinning again.
3 stars for the great flawless performance for 18 months, minus 2 stars for the cheap/underpowered/etc. spindle-motor that goofs up at this time making me spend a couple of hours toying with it just to watch my movies. Luckily I have a PS2/dvd to hold me over for a while if this DVD player craps out for good. Maybe I should try TOSHIBA next time?

For those who are in the need of extra storage, we often tend to use today CD burners, and storage from small hard drives. For those who have older computers, desktops or laptops, we need to find convient methods of coverting files from computer to computer. Does Not Work..........2007-04-29
Purchased two Centrix external floppy drives. I returned both of them. There are NO installation instructions for Windows XP computers. My Windows XP computer was unable to locate the floppy drive, so I could not read files or save files. The floppy drive gave error message: disc needs to be formatted. However, the floppy disc in drive was already formatted with files on disc. I inserted 5 different floppy discs with the same error message. The second Centrix external floppy drive worked... but, there was an error message: cannot safely disconnect floppy drive because it is communicating with computer (no floppy disc in floppy drive & no open software programs). NO installation instructions for Windows XP. After looking at packaging and instructions, it appears to be a generic type of floppy drive.
Amazon gave great service! They paid return postage and provided a pre-paid shipping label. The local postman will pickup the box to return it.

(15 years of tussles)... followed the instructions to the t & it didn't work on my p.c...... i'm running win98se & altho i tried several times the icon never appeared (as/instructions)...... to make matter worse & a tell tale indication of the mfg's integrity there is not trouble shooting/help info (tele,fax) in the materials....
