Its lightweight design (approximately 9 pounds) and built-in handle makes it a welcome travel partner, and its offers easy seatbelt pass-through for secure placement in vehicles using standard rear-seat center belts. The unit features a collapsing screen with a "drop-forward" LCD panel. The interior and driver-facing panel cluster are backlit for quick access, but without distraction. The MobileFlex slot-loading disc system and transport are designed to withstand most road vibrations, even during play. Additionally, both the unit's DC transformer and AC step-down housing are built-in, allowing connecting cables to be sleek and easy to use--there' no heavy, bulky "wall wart" at the end of the AC cord, just a UL-approved two-prong connector.
The BLD774 includes standard audio and video outputs (composite-video, stereo analog RCA audio) for easy playback through compatible larger TVs, and the unit can play when its built-in screen is either up or down (closed and off). A special expansion AV output allows hookup of an additional video screen with audio to be added as an option--it even channels DC current to the second screen. The player comes with a car cigarette-lighter DC power adapter and a built-in storage compartment.
Last but certainly not least, the unit includes stereo AV input terminals to allow stereo game units, camcorders, and other devices to be connected and pass signals through to the built-in speakers or to the stereo headphone jacks.

Easily the best mobile DVD player you can buy for the car, short of having an expensive professional system installed.
This unit is also safer than those "in a bag" portable DVD players, which hang on the back of the seat. Imagine what would happen in a car accident with one of those. I wouldn't want to be sitting behind it.
The RCA rests on the seat, and is buckled in with the seatbelt, a much better (and safer) design.
The only downside is there is no battery, but if you are using this for the car, or for a hotel room, you simply don't need one.
Could use resume play after power outage.......2004-05-23
This is a nice LCD DVD player. I like the fact that this operates in DC and AC modes without bulky power adaptors. The cables and remote neatly hide in the small storage compartment. My kids figured out the operation with zero help from me.
The only feature I'd like to see is the ability to resume playback after a power outage. The 12V power plug in my car cuts out when I start the car. Unfortunately, the DVD player insists on starting all over again. This is only a small inconvenience since we use this player primarily for long trips.

All in all this is an excellent item. The Sound quality is so poor, that I couldnt use this item until I bought a pair of good head phones. The Costomer service at Amazon.com was the best Ive ever seen. The first unit that was sent to me had a problem with the screen(which should be bigger, it was innefective at this size). The LCD display would not light correctly on one side of the screen, so I sent an email to Amazon.com's costomer service center, and right away(within the next day) I revieved and answer. They said it would be fine, to just send them the deffective player, and they would send out a new one(checked over personally by them) ASAP. And I guess they did, because the new item arrived within the next week. Orrigionally I wasnt supposed to recieve the player for another two weeks, so all in all, I recieved the second, working one, before it was predicted that I would get the first one. A Must Have for your DVR.......2007-10-02
I bought this unit to add badly needed additional capacity to my Scientific Atlanta HD cable box/DVR which came with a 40 gb drive. If you have a DVR you know how addictively convenient they are, and how quickly you can fill up the standard capacity. Most DVRs have a little socket on the back of the unit with an eSATA label. It is small-less than half the size of a USB socket. My cable company (Time Warner) does not officially support the attachment of an external drive, so you won't get any tech support directly from them. I have been told that the age of the box may be a limiting factor if the firmware is not very recent the port may not be active.
This drive was perfect for my needs-it is compact, nearly invisible when nestled between equipment(it has a black case rather than the grayish one in the photo) except for the blue activity light,and it is nearly silent at my normal viewing distance. You will need to purchase a cable (Amazon carries those) to hook this up. Through trial and some error, I found that my DVR would recognize the external drive if I powered down the box and unplugged it from AC power. Then I hooked up the drive, turned it on, then powered the cable box back up. That caused a reboot, and it recognized the external drive. Initially, it did not show any additional capacity (the percentage of space used was unchanged), but by the next day it correctly included the external drive capacity. This drive is a simple way to greatly increase your DVR storage capcity. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, this particular model is discontinued, but look for an external drive with an eSATA interface from Seagate (or manufacturer of your choice) and you should be fine.
Standalone External eSata Hard Drive & eSata Interface Card.......2007-08-09
It seems like the 'market' is now moving to external SATA hard drives
that interface via USB or Firewire but using an eSata interface seems
to offer the advantage of faster data transfers.
I take a fair number of relatively high resolution digital pictures
and that means a lot of data to be stored (for 'safety' I keep
duplicates on two different drives).
An advantage that this package offers is that it includes a
Promise Technologies dual-port eSata interface card (PCI bus).
If you've got a 'desktop' PC (with an available PCI slot), and
need a couple of external eSata interfaces, and you can use an
external standalone eSata interfacing hard drive, then this may
be a good choice.
When you factor-in what it would cost to buy a dual-port eSata
interface then it means that you're getting the standalone 500
GB SATA drive for about what 'internal' drives are selling for.
I believe that I read a review in which it was stated that some
accompanying 'backup' software did not work correctly but as I
am only interested in the 'hardware' that is not an issue with
me.
The first one of these Seagate packages got me both an eSata
interface card (for my 'old' PC) as well as an external drive.
Now I've bought a second one to equip my 'new' PC with an
external eSata interface and it provides me with another drive
for more storage space.

Even a caveman could setup this product. Two notes to file. Always have drive on before turning on computer. Always turn drive off when computer is turned off. Hot swapping can sometimes cause system hangups. Other than that, will be buying a second one once this is full.
Increase DVR Storage Easily.......2007-06-11
I recently purchased this external drive for my Scientific-Atlanta HD8300 DVR cable box to increase my HD storage capacity. Following directions found online for installation for this cable box, installation was flawless. The SATA interface works without a problem, the drive is quiet. In a nutshell the drive does the job!
