The unit kept on displaying "Invalid Key" even no key was pressed. The center LED in the Up/Down/Left/Right keys never lit and the keys never work. The Fwd/Bkwd keys are skipping uncontrolably during selection of the DVD's menu.
Got the replacement one a week ago. All functions work so far. It cames as Region-1, but easy to make it region-free from a secret menu after entering a 4-digit code.
CHEAP ... 1x use DVD Player.......2005-08-03
I purchased this player for my 2 year old for a plane flight.
The unit worked well once (for a duration of 1 hour) and stopped working? It was never dropped or mishandled. I thought it might just need another charge, so I recharged overnight to no avail. Basically the unit played one DVD for about an hour and is no longer functioning. It's dead.
It's a piece of junk and buyers should beware. I guess you get what you pay for ... and based on the cheap price I should have known. Just hope others can stay clear of this unit by reading this review.

There are few things I like about this DVD and a few that I don't.
What I like:
1. Battery life - up to 3.5 hrs
2. Sturdy structure - good if you've got small kids who want to operate the unit
3. Autovolt (100 ~ 240v) you can take it anywhere in the world.
What I don't like:
1. It's not multi-region, it's locked to region 1.
2. Does not play DVD-RW
3. Battery size -- battery is almost 20% of the total size of the unit. However, you can remove the bulky battery if you're using it in a car
4. Picture is so-so

i bought this unit few days ago it an solid unit i tested with all my home made movies then with store bought my vcd ,mp3, cd,they all work perfect not an scip the screen quality very good volume very good only the battery is a bit hard to fit but once you put it stays on i have used about 6 unit also the popular tohiba which becomes very hot and the picture freezes this unit is solid as gold if any one is looking for an nice unit this is it and it comes in black which i wanted it 5 star all the way

This product is awesome. I have traveled with it and it is light, and the picture is OUTSTANDING. I like the remote control when using this in my SUV. I have had no problems with this DVD, and would recommend it to anyone.

I haven't run into any problems yet. Even with heavy use (backing up large amounts of data, or booting Windows (yuck) or Ubuntu), it stays cool. It's a little noisy, and it doesn't act as a hub, but if that's not what you're looking for, this is definitely a great choice. I recommend it to anyone.

This drive was D.O.A. on arrival. All beauty no brains. Forced me to face the fact that in recent years, LaCie has shipped my company a lot of corpses or their drives have failed prematurely. The driver CD caused my mini's dvd-rom to whig out. The drive does not do that with ANY other CD or DVD. LaLosers is a better name for this company. Let the buyer beware!

This's a great product to decorate your home, I have a laptop dell and there's no problem to install and use.
The speed is fine, remember you are using a Firewire 400, but this is Firewire 800 compatible (tha's said the manual...) sooo... I'm going to test it with a F800 interface.
The F400 cable from PC or laptop (not mac) to Lacie, isn't include, so, you have to buy.

This is a very good product, the files transfer is quite fast via the firewire cable. The only con that I have is the very unaccessible power button, I understand they try to keep the apple style however this one is very bad positioned It gets in the way of all the cables that you have in the mini.

The drive looks good, performs well. The extra ports are a very welcome addition and it comes with extra cables.
My only (very minor) complains are that:
1) it's a little bit noisy... noisier than the Mac mini for sure.
2) The big LaCie logo in the front clashes with the mini's smooth front look.
3) The firewire port in the back and the power button don't line up with the mini's. Maybe it used to line up with the PPC version. Whatever.
4) The power light is brighter than the mini's.
I recommend this product.
