I purchased this DVD player a few months ago to replace a Denon dvd playe, which I loved. Before hooking this player up, I was worried that the quality would not be great (given the low price). However, after an easy installation, I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent picture and sound quality. (I have the player connected to my receiver via an HDMI cable and a fiber optic cable.)
This player is a great segue between a standard and high definition dvd player.
Pros: Great picture, great sound, easy setup
Cons: Small remote (universal definitely required), not DivX compatible

We purchased this several weeks ago and the first problem I see with it is the load/unload feature. After you press the button to open the DVD drawer, you have plenty of time to microwave a couple bags of popcorn before the *$^# thing actually opens.
And then you hit the open/close button AGAIN in frustration (like hitting the buttons for the elevator door repeatedly, hoping it'll arrive faster).
And then the *^%$ drawer finally opens and you try to put the disc in and the little door SHUTS AGAIN, as if to taunt you. Make no mistake, it *IS* taunting you...
I'm not sure what the problem is, but this open/close delay is a quirky little feature that makes you want to take a hammer and give Mr. Overseas-Manufactured-Cheapie-Cheap DVD player a series of little love taps.
I'd rather have a DVD player that didn't tell me "hello" and "good-bye" (as this one does) as that is a little disconcerting. If I'm relying on my DVD player to provide daily salutations, my life is really a very sad one. Take the ooomph-electronics needed for those hellos and good-byes and get that *$#% DVD drawer open a little faster, will ya?
The other gripe is the remote control. It's wee tiny and you'll need to keep a high-power magnifying glass on the end table so you can read the wee, wee tiny print on the remote control. It really is the smallest remote control I've ever seen. Your best bet is to hand it to the toddler in your family and ask them to push the right buttons. Neither the buttons nor their lettering are sized for adults.
As to video/audio quality, it does a real fine job. The picture is clear and the sound is clean and good. Hook-up is a breeze. I did not hook-up for the upscaling feature. Too much trouble. And as it is, with this DVD player on my 37" LCD TV, you can already see which actors had their toothies capped. It really is a very clear picture.
