Performed poorly or not @ all ,depending on the task. Would not transfer VHS to DVD as advertised.

Worst RCA (Thompson Electronics) Product Ever.......2007-12-19

My wife bought this in August for a Xmas present for me. She gave it to me this week (a little early). It just plain doesn't work. Locks up almost from the time it's plugged in. After many resets (both unplug and 10second hold on power button), it accepted a vhs tape and won't spit it out. This is my first Amazon product review...(I bought it at a Walmart SuperStore). Evidently there's a serious bug in this product's system; I shall never buy another electronic product without first reviewing customer reviews! Warrenty is probably expired and I'll have to fight Walmart for some kind of compensation. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT, unless you're a person who is very lucky.

Another Warning: DO NOT BUY!.......2007-11-30

Bought from Walmart in July 2007. Got it home & found out the second day that it wouldn't play certain store bought DVDs that my old $29 Apex did. I let that slide because I hate the Walmart return line.

When I went to record DVD's, I only had 2 turn out out of 9. Oh, it wrote on the disc, but then it wouldn't recognize it to finalize it.

Some video tapes will not play. One's that do sometimes have intermittently cut out audio (cartoons - not just movies).

When deleting stations from the tuner memory, the deleted one's always come back.

It ruined 2 DVD's because some DVD's just would not eject from the DVD tray even after cycling off then on again and even unplugging the chord when all else failed. I had to manually try to get it open.

I would have returned it to Walmart sooner if all of the problems would have showed up at the beginning. However, I waited until the last straw with my DVD's not ejecting and now that it's the end of November, Walmart said to deal directly with the manufacturer. I dread the whole process to come. I have read reviews of the same problems on other sites. I have also heard of the hassle with RCA (which I will be experiencing shortly).

DO a search on the product if you really are considering buying it. The features can't be beat for the price, however not all of the features work properly. I don't suppose it has anything to do with being made in China.....but it too may contain lead based paint :)

VCR Terrible.......2007-11-09

I excitedly bought this item (pretty well list price at WalMart) but when I finally got it all hooked up, the VCR was nearly non-funcional. The picture was shaky and would blip to blue screen intermittently. Although it seemed to record fine, it recorded what the VCR ouput was (shaky, blue screen, etc.). Seemed to me the tracking was off (no real way to fix this manually) in spite of (because of??) the six heads they advertise. The RCA people told me I needed to send it to them for replacement (my shipping costs). Needless to say, I it's not the DVD's that get burned, it's me.

Stongest DO NOT BUY Recommendation Possible.......2007-09-30

The reasons not to buy this pile of junk are too long for here, but the deal breaker was when I bought Season 2 of Ghost Whisperer. Disks 2, 3 and 5 play, but the machine says 1, 4 and 6 are "bad disks" and jams the machine refusing to eject the disk. The disks play perfectly on my JVC player and 2 computers. Exchanged the DVDs and got the same results. This machine should be taken off the market, and if RCA has any pride in their brand name they should recall all of them ant take them to the land fill. Fortunately I can still take mine back to the store, which I will be doing this week.
