Disappointed by Toshiba.......2007-12-12
We wanted a new upconvert DVD player primarily to view our very large library of VCD's SVCD's and DVD's that we have burned of photos from our travels. This player said that it would play all of those formats. (It is becoming hard to find players that still support some of our older collection) This player performed very well with our older VCD's. However with a brand new just burned DVD,we kept getting a bad disc message. After repeating the burn several times,we hooked up our old and dying player,and it worked great.
The phone call to Toshiba tech support was most disappoin ting. They informed me that,regardless of what their specs on this player said, it would not play + DVD's. Their only solution was to use only -DVD's. We returned this player(thank you,Amazon--no hassle) and bought a Yamaha. The Yamaha is really super,and well worth the few extra dollars. Toshiba tech support was a big disappointment. They had no interest in resolving the problem.
Good so Far!.......2007-12-11
I got my dvd player on 12-10-2007 at so far it works. The only thing I find wrong is some dvd's it doesnt format to 1080, like my troy dvd. No matter what I did It wouldnt fit my tv screen but my other dvd's did. Does anyone know is that suppose to happen? I say its a good deal and a nice dvd player.

We purchased this model about 3 weeks ago, and so far, it seems to be working okay. I agree with the other users in that the system is incredibly slow to respond to any button press, it can take a good 5-7 seconds for the player to respond, and by then you'd think that the system wasn't functioning. But, besides that issue, not displaying time, and having to purchase an HDMI cord, I'm happy with it (the other issues don't bother me that much.) The picture quality is fantastic. We also found that we could play a region 4 PAL dvd from Australia in the player with no issues, as well as play region 1 NTSC discs just fine. We have yet to try a region 2 PAL dvd, but we never had to unlock the system, so I was wondering if anyone knew if it was just made region-free? If so, it's a great bonus!
Unhappy with this player........2007-12-06
There are a few things that I did not like about this DVD Player. The biggest problem at first was the unresponsiveness. We would often press a button on the remote more than once because we did not think it had registered. Even the buttons on the player were unresponsive.
Another minor issue was that we did not like the fact that only the chapter is displayed when the disc is player. We would much rather have the elapsed time shown.
At this price, point I also expected the player to have an optical TOSlink audio out connection.
The worst problem with this player, though, is that about 2 weeks after purchasing, the player started malfunctioning. When the stop button was pressed, the video would stop, but the disc would continue to spin. If you then ejected the disc, it would spin in the tray. We returned the player and purchased the Sony DVP-NS77H/B which is performing nicely so far.
I would avoid this player.

The dvd player is nice plays AVI's and all the other format now I can put all the avi files on one dvd and save on dvd's

Having had a D2-60GB for four years and still counting, decided to add the D2-160Gb as a second storage and back-up device for my iMac. Easy to set up - hooked up the included power and FW400 cables, booted up the iMac and voila!-instant recognition. Partitioned the disc into two volumes to keep operating system and audio/video files separated and began transfer of data from the iMac to the D2-160GB. No problems whatsoever- unit runs very quietly with occasional muted clicking noises when reading/writing... very unobjectionable. And in the stand-up position, disc saves on desk space. All in all, a great product that gives great satisfaction and security.

I am buying a second LaCie drive in an attempt to rescue documents that I thought would be safe on my original drive that has crashed after about 1.5 years. $160 for the second drive (which I intend to swap parts with in an effort to resurrect my data) is a much cheaper solution than spending two to ten times that amount to have my data professionaly rescued. (A service LaCie doesn't offer!) Please... read the forums before you buy this drive! Had I done so, I would not have come near this drive with a stick!

I bought this to serve as a backup for all of my iTunes purchases and digital pictures. Now that it up and running, it serves me flawlessly. It's quiet, runs cool, and provides practically instant access to files (I access it via USB 2.0). Just be careful when setting up the first time. Being a man and initially ignoring the setup directions, I failed to realize that the disk apparently comes pre-formatted to use with Apple rather than Windows. Don't make my mistake! Once I reformatted the disk according to the directions, it worked great and I've been pleased ever since.

Lacie makes good stuff. Their d2 line of drives is excellent looking with a hard metal look that though understated is elegant in a techno way. This hard drive matched their d2 DVD writers as well, with the same metal look and the blue light. Same power adapter too, so if somehow you lose one or one fails and you have the other....you're still in luck.
Triple interface...yup, Firewire 400 (one port), 800 (two ports), and a USB 2.0 for those of you PC people :) Tried with the firewire 400...plugged in cable, plugged in power, and boom...160GB of storage on the desktop (formatted for Mac outta the box). Runs very cool, quiet too. Like most external drives today, has the option of being placed vertically with a sturdy stand. Will also fit into a rack if you so desire.
The drive is smaller than some other externals I've seen...which for me is a good thing as desk space is at a premium. While it's only been 5 days with the product, I feel confident enough about it to give it two thumbs up.

I have two of these guys, one for backups, the other my "briefcase" (going back and forth between work and home every day). Not a single problem, plug and go (I am using the FireWire interface), and silent. My boss got one on my recommendation, after ditching another brand, and loves it too.
