Attractive Junk --.......2007-10-15

Mine worked fine for a few months -- then suddenly went haywire: broke down into loud grinding noises during a video, wouldn't respond to remote or buttons on the unit, and wouldn't stop the grinding noise until unplugged. Now when plugged in it does absolutely nothing.

Probably of value to those who seek opportunities to throw their money away. Everyone else: avoid as if it were nuclear radiation or other cause of terminal illness.

Unfortunately, I am not given the option to give it a less than zero rating.

I use these phones with Vonage and they have been working great for nearly 2 years. I will definitely buy VTECH again.

Interference on FM radio reception.......2006-06-05

It took me the better part of a day to finally isolate the culprit that was causing a clicking noise about every 5 seconds when I would listen to certain stations on the FM radio band. But finally I unplugged the base station and suddenly the constant clicking noise while listening to the FM radio was gone. It was very noticible when listening to stations in the 100-103 Mhz range.

Otherwise, the phone has been great. The speakerphones in the handset are pretty good and the quality is good given the handsets have survived well when dropped. I'd give the phone 4 stars if it wasn't for the interference issue. But I chose a 5.8 Ghz phone thinking I'd avoid interference issues. However, my old 2.4 Ghz never caused the clicking on the FM radio.

VTech 5831...what's all the fuss about.......2006-01-30

Well I have to say after reading some reviews I was leaning towards not buying the unit, but I did anyway. True about the replacement batteries. They are hard to find, but I did find a place to buy a backup just in case. So far so great with the functionality. One thing I do note is that the charge doesn't last as long as my former phones, but then again those didn't have half the features this phone has.

Piece of Junk.......2005-11-29

Within a few months of my purchase, the buttons on the keypad start to fail. Nothing happens when I press the "off/clear" button, and on the accessory handset I bought, the "memory" soft button has the same problem.
Both phones are currently have serious keypad problems, very annoying.
I will definitely steer clear of Vtech phones in the future.

The instructions included with the CD are overly simple and somewhat incomplete. I have not been successful in getting the software to recognise my phone yet. There is an 800 help number to call but I haven't tried that approach yet ... you know how helpful customer service can be. As soon as I am in a calm and unhurried mood I will try that option and update this review.

Go to the Motorola web site and read what phone this works with... See if yours is there. Or buy it and spend a hour trying to get it to work... then go to the Motorola web site. Only works with very few versions of the Razr.

Phone tools works fine.......2007-11-08

I got Phone Tools a couple weeks ago. It works fine, although it does not sync with my Outlook--I think it's because I use a web version of Outlook. Still, it backs up your phone book and allows you to do some cool things with ringtones. I got mine for under $6, which was definitely worth it to me.
