Problems right out of the box.......2007-08-08

I received it as a birthday present. Right out of the box it did not work. Customer support said I needed a firmware upgrade because it only read/wrote 1x speed DVD's. Upgraded to 8x speed and things were great for the most part. You can record 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hrs on a DVD, though the best picture quality is found at the 1, 2, and 4 hr speed. The sound quality seems poor - always have to turn up the volume on the TV wayyyy past normal.
BUT...
now they don't sell 8x and slower DVD's in my area and customer support says they will not provide a firmware upgrade for 16x DVD's, so I basically have a nice dust collector once I run out of 8x DVD's. The unit spits out anything faster than 8x and despite the claim, will not work at all with RW discs (any speed).

Tom Tom Go 300.......2007-08-09

I never used a GPS navigator before and I got a good price for a refurbished GO 300. We were planning on trip from Ca to Eugene, Or and Grants Pass. The Navigator worked great, got us back on the freeway in San Franciso when my wife couldn't get in the correct turn lane in time.
It found the correct turn off on a country road to a friends house in Grants Pass. Just a dirt lane with a mailbox that we would never have found without the Tom Tom. In Eugene, it has taken us all over town with out a map and no waste of gas. It is a touch screen system, I use the eraser end of a pencil to make entries. Big fat fingers. If you know the address of where u need to go the Tom Tom will take you. I can be updated with a computer download on its removeable 1gb sd card. I haven't tried that yet. It autosaves entries so you don't have to enter common destinations all the time. The only gripe I might have is that is that it might say a 100 yards to a turn when it more like a 100 feet. However, it shows the name of the street u need to turn on and displays a continuously updated map. The map itself seems to show every curve and bend in the road u are traveling, sharp bends, long curves, so u know what is coming up. I think the unit has paid for itself in gas savings alone. Anyway, I love it, and I haven't used half the features that are available.

very happy.......2007-07-19

I bought the tom tom because of the price and what it could do. It works great immidiately. I called their help desk just to walk me through setup, but I probably didn't need to. I just didn't realize that I don't get reception indoors. My one caveat is that me dad had the tom tom one, which was less expensive, smaller to hold and I haven't seen anything that the 300 does that the one can't do.

I was hesitant to buy one of these GPS units after reading all the negative reviews here. But after reading several positive reviews on other sites, I decided to give it a try.

I ordered mine from Amazon at a great price and with free shipping. This after finding two OLDER TomTom Go 300's (older maps and inferior windshield suction cup) at two different pawn shops - for MORE $$$ than Amazon was offering them, WITH a warranty.

I got mine for trips to visit my parents who recently moved out of state.

Right out of the box the TomTom Go led me straight to their home, avoiding lots of frustration.

We used the TomTom 300 to make our way to several tourist destinations and restaurants. Normally the anxiety of getting out on highways we were unfamiliar with would have kept us from straying too far from my folk's new home. But this little gadget was great! We put in the address where we wanted to go and it took us there flawlessly. When it was time to return, we simply asked the TomTom to take us back to their house. It really was that simple.

My parents were so impressed they literally had me sign on to Amazon that night and order them each one. My dad is 74 and very afraid to venture to far from home since he hasn't learned the streets yet in his new community.

This is a life saver.

For $200 you get the belss and whistles you need. Why pay up to $600 for features you will never use.

my tomtom worked beautifully for a week, then it just stopped. its been saying unable to find a signal ever since. tried everything. what a waste of money and time. folks dont make the mistake i did.

I was initially relunctant to buy the tomtom because the reviewers had said the product might be defective. I had a coworker who bought one of the refurbished tomtom from amazon and he had no problem with it. So I decided to give it a shot as well.

The Tomtom arrived next morning and it work fine right out of the box. Everything is nicely packaged and it is road tested before shipping out by tomtom. I just updated the software since there is an updated version available, but everything is ready to go.

The tomtom functioned very well. I was very satisfied with the product. Normally tomtom goes up to $500 or more for brand new item, it is a steal IMOP even if its a refurbished tomtom.
