Received LG RC797T Tunerless 1080i Upconverting DVD Recorder VCR Combo
in three days (as promised) and powered up right out of the box works perfectly. Only draw back is the tiny buttons on the remote other than that it records DVD's and Tape's equally easy. Very happy I purchased this item and would recommend to family and friends.

In response to the other reviewer I wasn't lucky at all! I BOUGHT this receiver except with the tuner with hard earned cash on July 23, 2007 by the middle of October it had stopped playing DVD's completely although it would still record TV. I called LG at the end of October due to a busy schedule and asked if there was something they could do.
First things first...DON'T EVER CALL LG! Their product service sucks to put it lightly. I was told, "let me take your number and we'll call you back." That was at 9:00pm at night. Uhh...what time do they think I want to be up chatting with them anyway??? They finally sent me a shipping label and told me to pay them $69 and they would fix it. Gee thanks...So kind of you LG!
I searched on the net and there is a problem with this reciever reading bought DVD's. It's the number one complaint with this receiver. I urge anyone to look around before buying this receiver. This receiver should be on recall!!!!
If it stops on you after 90 days they're going to charge you $69 to fix it! That's unreasonable to say the least for something that cost this much. Worst part is that mine stopped on me before the 90 days was up and they STILL charged me! From the email:
"I apologize about the service charges on this matter. The request was plainly stated to our factory service division to waive the labor charge."
After one year it's $69 + parts + freight! I'm not even sure I want to pay them the lousy $69 dollars to fix it considering it only worked right for about three months to begin with.

I really don't know how to rate this item. I bid on it at a bowling league fundraiser. I bid $70 and was the high bidder. My grandson hooked it up to my AV equipment and showed me how to record from an old tape to a DVD. I immediately forgot how and had to read the instructions over several times. I am somewhat of an expert in that phase as of this moment. There are so many more functions to learn that I'll be busy for a long time.
The finished discs are awsome, if you will pardon the oft quoted phrase. This unit will play everything on the market as far as I can see. My grandson is a true whiz with AV equipment. Lucky me. I have had this unit one week today and I am having the time of my life. The formal name of this unit is LG RC797T DVD Recorder/VHS Recorder. By the way, while recording from VHS to DVD, one can watch another program on TV at the same time. Neat. Everthing becomes enhanced with the finished discs. I am blessed.

Purchased in August, this unit came with a defective car adapter cord. In other words, you are fine until the rechargeable battery gives out-- you will have directions for the first 2 hours of your trip only !!
According to their 800 number, the car adapter cord is still on back-order due to high demand. So they continue to sell new units, presumably with car adapter cords that work, but can't replace loads of defective ones. Weird. If you will only use the Nextar unit for very short trips, give it a try.
Great GPS unit from an off-brand manufacturer.......2007-12-16
previous reviewers have said most of what I would say about this, so I'll limit this to only what hasn't been said. I upgraded from a Garmin i5, and I am very glad that I did. I wouldn't advise that you spend too much on a GPS system, since they keep getting better every year, and cheaper ( I just bought my Garmin i5 last year). Compared to the Garmin ...
-Nextar has many less POIs (i.e. if you want to find the nearest Best Buy in your area, it is not in the database)-so if you absolutely want millions of POIs, get a Garmin.
-The Nextar (i think, though there is some controversy about this), uses the new SIRF GPS III chipset, so was infinitely quicker at acquiring satellite signals than the Garmin- this was a major that I bought it.
I also bought a TomTom One when I bought the Nextar, to compare the two. You can see my review on Amazon on the TomTom. While the TomTom was also a great GPS, the Nextar won out for me. Why?
- amazing suction cup mount- this thing just does not fall off even if you pull on it. Meanwhile, TomTom's included suction cup mount left a lot to be desired ( it fell off easily)
- there are some "preliminary" text to speech features on the Nextar. It will tell you the name of the road to turn onto if it is a major highway or a major road with a number. note, it will not tell you names of most "minor" roads.
- the touchscreen keyboard is very easy to use.
- the unit did take a little bit longer to pick up a satellite signal ( average is one to two minutes from a cold start, 15-30 seconds from a warm start) than the TomTom (about 30 second to one minute from a cold start).
- the unit is also a little bit bigger than TomTom one, which will fit into your pocket, while the Nextar is too big to be put into your pocket (for guy's pockets).
- Directions are pretty straightforward.
- has much less variety of voices on this vs the TomTom (which had 30+ voice choices)
in the end, this unit won out because of the preliminary text-to-speech feature, the better on-screen keyboard, the immensely better suction cup mount, and it was $50 cheaper at the time.

In searching for a GPS I read Consumer Reports, Cnet and any of the reports that I could find. All of the reviews were written about the higher end units. I only found one review on the Nextar and it gave it high marks. Based on that review I ordered the Nextar and have been extremely pleased with it. It has the capability of pinpointing your exact location which would be a helpful feature if you encounter car problems in a remote location and need to call for assistance. The only time it failed to locate an address was due to operator error--I had used the wrong city. The price is economical and includes a carrying case, home charging unit, auto charging unit, mounting cradle and USB connection. You can't beat the unit and the price.

I USE IT FOR WORK EVEYDAY FOR THE PASS THREE MONTHS NOW. IT WORKS REALLY GOOD. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE LOOKING OR A GPS UNIT WITH A MP3 PLAYER. IT TAKE ME RIGHT TO THE DOOR I NEED TO BE AT.
