Yes, it is a rebadged Toshiba, but Toshiba isn't making it anymore!.......2007-12-19
Toshiba is going to concentrate on their own normal market, the mid-level consumer. Hence they are discontinuing the XA2, the reference design from which Onkyo has inherited this player. Onkyo will likely use this as a base to design and market their own 'next generation' player in the future. The current MSRP on this is just what Toshiba had on the XA2, so there really is no price discrepency. Ignore the blu-ray fans that want to turn this into some kind of trick.

Harman Kardon GPS300 GPS Harman Kardon® introduces its Guide + Play GPS-300, a full-featured GPS navigation and multimedia device that incorporates high-fidelity audio - but that's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Functioning as a portable GPS navigation system or digital music player with full music-browsing capability, Guide + Play GPS-300 is the must-have, all-in-one solution for automotive or personal use.
Amazon.com Product Description
The 4-inch widescreen LCD display offers a wider map view than standard GPS navigators.

Harmon Kardon is lauded within the trade for its high-quality loudspeakers and A/V components, and now the company has leveraged its expertise to develop the Guide + Play GPS-300, a portable GPS navigator with an integrated MP3/WMA player. The GPS-300 sports a sleek, 4-inch widescreen interface that gives users access to a robust navigation system with a simple touch of a finger. The interface lets you toggle between device menus with ease, perform a point-of-interest (POI) search to find nearby restaurants, coffee shops, or bookstores, and access the music player at a moment's notice. More significantly, the GPS-300's navigation and music functions are tightly integrated, so you can see and hear all the important navigation information even while playing MP3 files--a rarity among portable navigation devices. Users can even set volume priority between the two functions.
The 4-inch widescreen LCD display, meanwhile, offers a larger map view when in GPS mode than standard navigators, with a 480 x 272 pixel resolution to ensure a clear, crisp viewing experience. It's also a breeze to supplement the built-in U.S. and Canada basemap thanks to the Secure Digital (SD) card slot, which accepts cards as large as 4 GB. As a result, you can install European street maps, rural U.S. street maps, topographical camping maps, and a host of other map types. And, of course, you can add MP3 and WMA files via the cards as well.
The GPS-300 offers tightly integrated navigation and music functions, with the ability to prioritize the volume levels.

A pocket-sized, virtually invisible portable mount secures the slim GPS-300 for automotive use, with a ball-and-socket joint providing an almost unlimited number of viewing angles. As a result, you can easily position the screen so that it can be seen from anywhere in the vehicle. Other details include 3 million points of interest, 2 GB of internal flash memory, a USB 2.0 high-speed interface, a rechargeable battery that runs for up to five hours per charge, a 12-volt power cable for in-vehicle charging, and a carrying case that's perfect for travel.
The GPS-300 measures 4.5 by 3 by 0.8 inches (W x H x D), weighs 7 ounces, and carries a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box
GPS-300 navigator, 12-volt power cable, USB cable, portable vehicle mount, user's manual.

Harman Kardon.......2007-12-27
My wife unexpectedly purchased this unit for X-mas. I was not quite sure how it would fare. For the most part HK nailed it, my friend has a magellan that he's constantly having problems with and half the time when we're on road trips it is useless (always searching for signal or freezes). I've been using this unit constantly since unwrapping it just to see how accurate it is and low and behold it has not dropped the ball. The only complaint I have albeit a small one is when you get close to your destination it says arrived even though you can be about a 25 to 50 feet away. Mounting is a cinch, I definately recommend this unit.

Disappointed.......2007-11-08
Harman Kardon GPS-300 Portable Navigation Unit with MP3 Player and 4-Inch Widescreen Video
As a GPS, in my rural community, it was consistently wrong. It must have had an outdated map or was simply inaccurate because it mis-located my house by a 1/4 mile. On local trips, it would constantly call for a U-Turn to the point that passengers would want the unit turned on because it was so stupid that it was hysterically funny.
The package does not come with an A/C charger although the instructions require that the unit be charged six hours before using. The start-up manual is incomplete and gives instructions to download a manual from the internet. The manual was not available at the time of this writing.
The mounting to the window contains a lever that can flip inside itself and make installation impossible unless it is flipped back out, something not covered by the instructions.
It does not have the voice to text feature, so it does not speak the name of the oncoming street.
I was disappointed. I returned the unit to Amazon and they recommended the Garmin nuvi 350 saying it was the most popular. It seems to have gotten things right.
Decent GPS.......2007-11-06
Have been using GPS in my RV for about 8 years now. Started with Delorme on my laptop. OK, but cumbersome. Got a Navman ICN550 next. Really loved that unit, solid and extremely functional. However, maps were getting outdated and Navman no longer supports map updates for that particular model. Soooo -- I needed to move on to something else. Have had the HK 300 for a few weeks now. So far, so good. I have had to re-set it a few times and the battery drains rather quickly, even when the unit is not powered up. Maps are good, GPS functions perform well. Screen is very clear, volume is acceptable. MP3 player is OK, but cannot get Windows media player to transfer a playlist. Albums and songs transfer OK. Unit does not like a 4GB SD card, but 2GB card seems to work well. HK promises that map updates will be available in the future. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
POI's seem rather complete. Entering destinations is easy. A nice touch is that unusable letters grey out on the keyboard when entering a street or city name. This makes entry much quicker and easier.
The unit has nowhere near the flexibility of my old Navman, but it does a good job getting you where you want to go, as the maps appear to be up-to-date and accurate, and that is what a GPS is all about. In the end, it will all depend on the availability of map up-dates. Failing that it will be all but useless in a few years.
I believe one of the reviews I read said you could not charge the battery except with the DC charger. That is incorrect. The unit will charge from the USB port when connected to your home computer. There are so many units out there. You can go nuts reading specs and reviews. I place a lot of stock in user reviews. The HK has good user reviews and this is another one. Will be taking a long RV trip soon and will have the chance to give it a good workout. Will update this review after that trip.
12/8/07 Update
Unit performed very well on a trip from the S.F. Bay Area to Palm Springs. Once in Palm Springs used it in a rental car with an MP3 input. Having directions with music over the car radio was neat. Unit was right on the money with all locations I needed to find. No regrets at all about buying this GPS.
Excellent product.......2007-10-04
I was looking for a slick GPS in my price range, and came across this one.
Harman Kardon really knows how to capture the attention of the technology-wise individuals. This product is simply gorgeous! excellent performance!
Nice size, touch screen, automatic re-routing really fast, nice guidance, 3d maps, street naming, etc. I have tried to get this device confused by not following its suggestions, and it finds a way to get you back ontrack really fast. Like any other electronic device, is not perfect and needs some resetting from time to time..Not big deal!...overall it is worth it!
It comes with everything you will need to protect it and get going fast; except for a way to charge it when in the house. Accessories are not yet available but i'm sure will be available soon enough.
For those who can't afford a nuby, this is it.
Best GPS under 300.......2007-09-07

I have had this for about 2 months now and am very happy with it.
You can't go wrong.

Product Description
You can't turn up the luminosity on nebulas, but you can crank up the contrast between them and the sky to reveal more of their wondrous detail. Our Oxygen-III filter provides extremely selective filtration to bring out elusive detail in diffuse and planetary nebulas. It does so by transmitting close to 90% of the light corresponding to the two oxygen-III spectral lines at 496nm and 501nm while completely blocking virtually all other wavelengths. The results are remarkable. You'll see more detail than you ever could before in nebular gems such as the Swan, Ring, Dumbbell, Helix, and Eagle, to name a few. The O-III provides an even greater contrast boost on some objects than the UltraBlock narrowband filter. And for nebulas, every little bit helps! Try the O-III with a low-power 2" eyepiece and take in the whole Veil Nebula. Wow!
