one touch record faulty.......2007-03-20
I have used this product to play around with taping a few shows off the air. I had to directly connect the hdtv to the recorder, because I don't think the recorder scans for digital channels(no built-in hd tuner). This is fine, but makes for a tough time when trying to set the timer record, which is the only fool-proof way to record past 30 min. I've had to sit by the machine a few times while recording to make sure it wouldn't stop at 30 min. Still not sure because I manually press record??? I guess I need to press it a few times to add 30 min slots... I know this is the one-touch recording feature, but I wish there was a message or indicator that recording was going to stop after 30 min. Otherwise a nice little machine to start with especially for the price. I paid $70.
Hard unit to work with!.......2006-08-28
The Presidian DVD recorder is not the best piece of equipment.
One. The instructions on operating it, are written very poorly.
(The set-up menu can be somewhat confusing.)
Two. You can't record from tv, without having a seperate wall input from your cable service. (you can't put the unit through
your cable box without losing some of your cable channels!)
It took me two days to figure out how to record from my vcr.
and if you want to record from a dvd player, you have to disconnect the out puts from the vcr and re-route them to the dvd player.
The only thing I can recomend is that you use this unit as a temporary piece of equipment. Until you can step up to a better
one.

First one was bought at Radio Shack for [...](with a [...]). Does exactly what it says. I've had mine for six months and use it nearly daily. I've had no issues with this product.
What a stinker of a product!.......2006-04-17
First, if I try to record more than one DVD in a row, the second one has picture noise throughout. Now, not long after buying this DVD recorder, it says is's recording fine, but then it won't finalize the disc once it's finished (Message is "FAILED!"), and then when you try to figure out what is wrong, the DVD recorder says its an invalid disc. Not even my Mac, which opens any DVD can read it even so much as being a valid disc. What a piece of crap. I guess you get what you pay for!

Nice but lacking some things.......2008-01-01
I work from home, and am on the phone with a headset between 1 and 6 hours each day. These are the shortcomings from my perspective:
1. Location of headset jack causes problems. The location of the jack is near the bottom of the phone, so that when you put the phone on the base, the headset is in the way. If the plug on the headset has any extra plastic around it, then the phone won't charge.
2. The headset jack is poorly designed. It is recessed into the phone a bit so that if your headset plug has any extra plastic around it then it won't fit into the jack correctly.
3. Feels cheap. The entire back comes off to give you access to the batteries, but the plastic feels cheap and I fear the tabs that hold the back on will break.
4. Delay when pushing buttons. There is a noticeable delay when dialing a phone number. I did not include this in my decision on whether to keep the phone, because it is a very minor issue.
5. Volume range is limited to low, medium, and high. I would have preferred to have more fine grained control over the volume.
6. Same old phone book. It is still limited to one number per name. I much prefer the cell phone style of multiple numbers per name. This does not make it worse than any other home phones I have tried, but I had hoped for more.

Siemens ten-year track record of marketing these phone systems in Europe shows. The reception is clear. The design is clean and the phone is easy to use. The answer system works reliably. The directions for use and programming are straight forward. Definitely worth the price.

This would be the perfect phone if you didn't have to deal with the horrible echo that can occur while talking on the handset.
I can't believe Siemens would release a phone with such an obvious problem.
Siemens can do better.......2007-11-23
I had a Siemens 8825 (for a long time) when it first came out, and it was good until few months ago. I ordered this one S455 with few extra handsets as replacement. In some ways it's better than 8825 as it is much clearer and has clock on the handsets. However, it still does not have mute as many of other users mentioned, and somehow the max volume is much lower than what my 8825 can deliver on the speaker phone.

This phone, like the BMW I own, is elegant, practical, sophisticated and complex. Neither machine will appeal to those who just want something simple. The extremely well written 55 page instruction manual answers ALL of the concerns raised by other reviewers. But, it takes time, and some intelligence to sort it all out. So does the I Drive on my BMW.
The voice clarity is stunningly better than the 5.8 gig phones I have been using, and I live deep in rural Vermont, with legendarily horrendous phone service. The sophisticated intermeshing of handset and base controls gives me a new appreciation of German logic and engineering. And the range of choices for every other aspect of telephone use is, at least to me, dazzling.
If you are willing to work one half as hard as this phone, you'll be a very happy customer indeed.
