The DVD-S1500 is compatible with both DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD. These multi-channel music formats provide a surround sound music experience that is much more natural and lifelike than normal stereo. It delivers sound quality that is superior even to some more expensive players for a number of reasons. It uses high performance 192kHz/24-bit audio DACs for all channels. The Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio circuits are completely independent and optimized for each format (the Super Audio CD circuit is extremely simple and straight). This guarantees highest quality with both types of disc (format selection is provided). An Audio Direct can be selected to ensure that no interference from the video circuitry can affect the sound.With versatile format and disc compatibility, the DVD-S1500 will play almost any type of disc you are likely to have: Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio/Video, DVD+R/+RW, DVD+R/RW, Audio CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD and VCD discs, as well as disc with MP3 (multisession) and JPEG (multisession) files. The DVD-S1500 provides an on-screen display with clearly understandable On-Screen Menu Icons. It's easy to select and adjust and desired function with the remote control. The DVD-S1500 gives you numerous ways to enjoy your discs. You can program tracks in the order you want, use Shuffle Play to play them randomly, repeat them in a variety of ways, freeze any frame, and zoom the images to three different sizes. There's also a Resume Play mode with a 5-disc memory.

OK when it works.......2007-09-30

Well Its being exchanged right now, it does sound a little better than the average stuff in this price range, but when it wont play an SACD and locks up occasionally its kind of annoying, hopefully the next one will be OK.
Strictly no frills player, front panel offers little info, and you need the remote for everything but play stop and eject.
So: Sound, in this price range excellent!
Usability: so so, lack of info and buttons is kind of annoying

Good buy at this price though as long as they arent all like mine ;)

Doesn't work with wireless network.......2007-12-26

I've had the phone for a year or so and it's worked reasonably well.

Now I cant use the phone at all because after about three seconds it drops the connection with the base - "searching for base.

I'm seriously annoyed - I purchased the phone because it is a different frequency to the router.

Vtech customer support was useless so I need to make a decision between my wireless router and my vTech handset. I'm going to have to give it away to one of my friends who doesn't have a wireless router. That may be tough!

Not a happy start..........2007-12-26

Received our VTech I5808 and I5871 with enthusiasm. The design is excellent. Installation went smoothly. However, within 24 hours we needed to reset the pairing in order to receive or make calls. After multiple resets, a phone call was made to the VTech customer support team. They were pleasant but brought bad news. In the customer service team member's script was a statement that the product offered through Amazon was most likely old and needed to be replaced. Further, he recommended that we return our phones to VTech, not Amazon. As a result, we packed up the product and shipped it back to VTech (at our expense) for a complete replacement.

So ... the verdict is still out. Did we receive an old phone? Will the new phones be reliable? Will VTech promptly return new phones? In the end, will we be happy with our purchase?

The WORST phone I've ever owned..........2007-11-28

I thought Cordless Phones were pretty basic technology. I've owned this phone for nearly 6 months, and it just keeps getting worse and worse.

First it started with the screen. It progressively started disappearing and looking all garbled, until you took out the battery and put it back in again.

Then, it stopped ringing half the time, leaving me 1 ring until voice mail kicked in.

But by far, the most annoying feature is that it DROPS MY CALLS! This isn't a Cell Phone! I live in an open loft space, no walls in the way what-so-ever. If I walked more than 10 feet from the base, it would cut off and say "Call Dropped... Searching for base."

Now the phone doesn't work at all. Setting it on the base, it still wont find it once you pick it up again.

This phone looks cool, but it's sad that it doesn't even work as a phone. I bought it mainly for buzzing in guests when they're at the door of my building, but since I can now only use the speaker phone on the base, I can't even do that much.

Worthless device...

worst phone and manual.......2007-11-22

My wife spent lots of money (about $140) on this phone. It stopped working in 2 months. The handset can't find the base. The user manual indicates to press "register" on the handset when using base to set up handset. But there is not "register" key anywhere on the handset. Took back to the store and they fixed somehow. It lasted another several months and same problem occured again.

Don't waste your money on this one. I do have good experience on another basic cordless Vtech phone - a $5 one which doesn't give me any problem.

Stylish but that's about it..........2007-11-17

We bought this phone because of it's stylish look, and to be honest...the price. We figured you get what you pay for right? Not in this case. This is honestly the worst phone I've ever had.

Sure, it's got a bunch of bells and whistles that we played with for about 3 days, but at the end of the day, you want your phone to have good clarity, good range and a long battery life. This phone had none of that.

I will never purchase another V-Tech product again.
