Don't buy these if you have a wireless network.......2004-07-27

I have a set of three of these phones (my mistake to buy all at once). They have had problems from Day One. I have had to return them to Siemens -- only to get the same problems back. None of their recommended fixes have worked. And worst of all, customer support has been atrocious. I recommend not buying these. I bought two other 2.4 Ghz phones from AT&T, and they have been flawless in the exact same environment.

Good overall, but one key problem........2004-06-03

I just discovered in another review here that there truly is no mute function. I had been searching the Web for advice on how to do just that. With small children and regular concalls, I need to be able to mute. Ack.

I am happy with this phone otherwise.

I really wanted to like this phone, but here are the problems:

1. When a headset is plugged in, the volume (for listening) is too low and can't be turned up sufficiently. (This is not a problem with the headset.)

2. No mute button. Terrible if you use the phone for work/meetings.

3. Limited speed dial. I like to program access codes (like mailbox number and password), since I use my phone for work purposes. I can't do that with this phone.

4. The buttons are not very responsive and there is a delay until you hear a "beep" indicating that you pressed a button. Sounds petty but the result is that, when dialing, you often miss a number but don't realize it until it's too late. Then you have to start over.

5. The size and shape of the phone are not conducive to holding it between your head/ear and shoulder.

clear voice quality and nice features.......2004-01-28

I bought the 4000 as a remote to my 4210. It was a mistake. The 42XX series will automatically download your adddress book. The 4000 does not have this feature. You will have to input you phone numbers again. The 4200 adds voice dialing and called ID. For a basic remote in a Siemens phone network, this phone will be fine. I use mine with a Vonage VOIP (cable) phone system and it works great. It broke my heart to say goodbye to Verizon. NOT!

One of the most stylish 2.4 Ghz phone out there!.......2004-01-25

I have been using this phone for almost 2 years now and the only problem I have encountered is with the base charger refusing to charge if the phone is not placed exactly upright. Otherwise, reception is always crystal clear, range is incredibly FAR! I live in second floor, I took my phone to the basement through elevator and the only static I heard is after I got into my car! Every time my friend came to my place the look with awe at this stylish phone. I would recommend this to everyone who wants a quality phone that doesn't have those geeky style in it.

Good signal, easy setup.......2007-11-22

I converted my LaserJet 5MP (what a workhorse!) to wireless with this unit. It communicates well with the Ubuntu and Windows Vista laptops in the house. Wireless printing is much more convenient than print sharing since you don't have to turn on an extra machine to act as a server.
The documentation could be better and you need a Windows computer (or WINE) to get this running because the web interface doesn't work out of the box. But it's been running fine for weeks now that I've installed it.
I haven't had a problem with signal strength at all and my printer is upstairs while my computer is often downstairs.
I would recommend this adapter with the caveat that it's easy to set up if you know the basics of home networks. From the other reviews and comments, I'd say that if you don't know what an IP address is or how to install a networked printer on your OS, you might want to look elsewhere for something simpler to install.

Set up a little tricky.......2007-09-04

It took me several attempts to get this going - the instructions are dismally vague - however, having a good knowledge of networking, etc. I was able to get it going within about an hour. Once I got things ironed out and installed it correctly, it works great! The big caveat is the IP range - you need to have access to your linksys router via a wire in order to connect in and change the range over to 192.168.1.XXX. So, depending on your setup, this may be a challege. I just happened to have a nice long patch cord to run around the house, but not everyone does. Otherwise, you may find yourself having to move the printer closer temporarily in order to be able to connect in to make your changes.

Success at last!.......2007-06-27

This print server would be easier to configure on the default 192.168.x.x network, but that isn't my case. After changing the factory IP address, the problems began. Eventually the subnets synchronized and the step for web configuration succeeded. I suspect the WiFi configuration problems were due to weak signal between the router and print server. After WAP was configured it finally linked up and began working. The web admin is good, but it would help to have a signal strength indication on the wireless status page. All in all, this is a good print server for aging parallel printers.

Waste of time.......2007-06-17

I never write reviews for products at Amazon, so the fact that I'm exerting the effort should speak volumes.

This is the hardest print server to configure that I've come across. I've spent hours reading the directions that shipped with the item, trawled through pages of discussion pages and websites, and still couldn't get this item to work. It's on its way back to Amazon for a refund. Amazon should consider dropping this item.

Save your time. Look at other options.
