The Protron PD 007 is working as advertised. The selection for surround sound in the manual was not as clear as it should be. Checked manual from other manufacturer to get correct setting.
Have found that all features on all disks will not be available on all DVD players like Apex, Cinevision, Coby and Toshiba.
Have watched only one movie thus far. Have run parts of other movies to check video quality and sound set up.
Runs Home movies copied to DVD-R disk on Toshiba DVD recorder.
it didnt work!.......2006-03-21
The night we hooked it up and tried playing the first dvd, it made really wierd tracking-like lines (as if it was a VCR.) Half the screen would be squiggly, and half clear. The screen would also get dim and then bright again. This happened about 5 times in the first minute of the movie. We tried to reset its power, and cleaned the dvd, but it didn't fix the problem. I know there was nothing wrong with our DVD or TV, it is the player.
I do not have a good first impression with this DVD player or Protron company. I am taking it back to Sears first thing tomorrow morning because it is worthless to me.

Ok for an extra DVD for the kids or bedroom.......2006-01-08
Bought this at HH Gregg for $20 when they had employee family pricing. I wasn't expecting much for the price, so I'm not disappointed. It plays most movies ok. It loads a little slow and the remote is a little stiff. Subtitles don't seem to work too well. I tried watching the Seinfeld DVD's with the "Notes about nothing" on. It cut a lot of them off. You could probably get a better DVD player for $10 more. But if you are just looking for something to have in your room or the kids room, it's decent, though not for $40. Definitely not a living room DVD player.
Does not play all DVD-R.......2005-10-22
Seems to play pressed DVDs (purchased movies etc) fine. Only played 1/2 of my DVD-Rs (burned DVDs). Players from other manufacturers played all of my disks. You can get this unit at HHGreg for $30.

No Functioning Units to Be Found! Don't Buy!.......2007-11-24
I bought this phone largely based on the very positive reviews on amazon. First I bought an open box item on an auction site, as the seller said they'd tested all the basic functions. The battery was too old to hold a charge and even after replacing that the unit would not communicate with the base unit, even after "reregistering" it. Was out $47, as they had no returns of open box items. So I came back to amazon and bought a "new" one from a 3rd party vendor. Although the box seemed sealed, it did not contain a battery and the "quick setup" guide wasn't in the box either. Not sure it was all that new.
Bottomline, I'm not sure you can find a functioning unit and I will not be buying another. Too bad because it seemed like a good phone and I don't need multiple handsets.

This little phone is pretty cheap, and it works great! The answering system (which is one of the main reasons that I bought this phone) works flawlessly; you can have a large number of messages on the phone at once as well as a decently long answering message. The wireless range is really good, which is saying a lot considering that the dorm I live in is known for interfering with wireless signals and the like. I have found that the 5.8 GHz does not interfere with my computer wireless at all, which is very nice. On top of all this, the phone has many nice little features, such as numerous ringtones and flashing lights for when the phone rings. There are also some bells and whistles (such as Caller ID and downloadable ringtones) that I haven't taken advantage of yet. Basically, this phone has got it all for a cordless phone! Great system + affordable price = happy customer :)
One warning: You can't add other handsets to this base. That's OK for me because I wasn't planning to, but if you want to add more handsets in the future, you had better find another model.

The cordless answering system works great! It does everything just like the description said. Very clear recording and never cuts callers off. If you are looking for one of these, this is the one.
Great phone but short-lived.......2007-06-10
Did everything promised, and did it well - for about ten weeks of use. Then the base station quit. The phone is still fine, but without the base station it's paralyzed.
I haven't time for this sort of nonsense so I'll replace it with something cheap from a local store.
Great phone (5), didn't live long (1), so it gets a compromise rating of 3 stars.
