Very pleasing appearance and style, overrated 6.0 DECT.......2007-12-31

I have owned many panasonic cordless phones, and the jump for 2.4 to 5.8 ghz was a great difference. The advantage of frequency, is a nice touch if you got your phone next to a radio or computer speakers like me. Very sleek and a beautiful glossy black with a color screen. As for reception, it's not worth the extra money over the 5.8 cheaper models. One thing this item is desperately lacking is speakerphone from the base of the answering machine. Speakerphone is a feature offered even by cheaper models. You must lift the phone off the hook, and click the speakerphone on the phone itself. Overall, the phone gets crystal clear calls, and a 10 just for the design.

I haven't tried a distence from the base unit yet. Otherwise, arrived
immediately and in excellent shape. I doubt if i've tried all of its
many functions; all basic, answering device, etc works great. Wonderful
buy and with the added handset.

Sleek sexy phone that's missing a couple critical features.......2007-12-26

Overall, this phone set is terrific. It features a bright color screen and a sleek glossy black look. (Once you go with a color screen, it's hard to go back) The base station is surprisingly compact. Call clarity is excellent. Speakerphone is plenty loud. You can even check your answering machine through the handset! Panasonic's usual mess of small buttons has been streamlined somewhat to reduce confusion.
A slight gripe is that while Panasonic gives you a color screen, it doesn't really use it to its full potential. You have a choice of *three*, count 'em, three wallpapers. And that's it! All but one are pretty tacky.
A bigger gripe revolves around the answering machine. First of all, Panasonic removed the talking Caller ID that was standard on almost all their previous models. Secondly, there is no on-phone notification that someone left a message on your machine. The *only* indication is a hard-to-see blinking red light on the base station. There is no audio notification that there are new message either (many other phones beep when there's a new message). So unless you are frequently near the base station (which I'm not), you may have messages and not know it.
So in a nutshell:

Great sound
No WiFi/Bluetooth Interference with DECT6
Compact, sleek styling
Backlit keypad
Good speakerphone
Answering machine operation from handset.

CONS
No audible or visual new message alert on handset
Limited customizability (few wallpapers/ringtones)
No talking caller ID.

Happy with this phone.......2007-12-22

After reading the prior reviews, it seems like there are some quality control issues with this phone. I guess that I am one of the lucky ones as we're quite happy with this phone. There haven't been any issues of the sound cutting out, or other malfunctions.

The sound and range is better than our prior two Uniden sets(2.4 and 5.8ghz). The ringtones are a bit cheesy sounding and limited(midi sounds). The adjustable volume feature works well as it has 5 ringer levels and off. The answering machine and speaker phone work fine for us and sounds clear. I'm not sure why others don't see they have messages or missed calls when it's clearly indicated on the handset screen? Also, the keypad is lighted in orange(it's about time Panasonic).

If I had one complaint, it would be the set up wasn't exactly intuitive (to me) when it came to storing names and numbers into groups and distinctive rings, distinctive colors, etc. I found myself getting a bit frustrated while setting up those features, but once it's done- it's done(and effective). If you have multiple handsets, you have to copy your phonebook to each handset. That is easy, however the phone won't copy group saving, and distinctive rings/colors to my knowledge. Storing that information is time consuming and involves too many steps in my mind. Consider that if you aren't a techie, because I'm a bit of a techie/gadget enthusiast and programming this phone simply was a chore.

I bought the set with the 3 additional handsets(c0stc0), and haven't had any issues with any of the handsets. Other than the non-intuitive, irritating menu navigation set up, I like this phone. Sharp looking unit, with good features.

Keeps losing link to base.......2007-12-20

I really wanted to like these phones. I think the design is nice, and the speakerphone is very good. However, there are two major issues that have lead me to return this system:

1 - I am constantly getting a "no link to base" error. I live in an NYC apartment, not a huge house, and there should be absolutely no distance issues (and i had no such problem with my prior vtechs). Panasonic support's suggestion is to unplug then replug the base unit. OK, that works, and if I only had to do it once in a blue moon I could deal with it, but it is now happening several times/week and that is just too annoying to deal with. Btw, their phone support people are not very good, particularly in comparison to their videocamera support team.

2 - there are definitely some issues with the sound cutting out as prior reviewers have noted.

Really wished these would work, particularly because the handset speakerphone works so well...
