When it works sounds/ looks great.......2007-12-17
In shop many times, takes long time to read disc sometimes won't read at all says " no disc" finally told me board was bad after warranty was up. Yamaha service sucks
universal player? not!.......2007-05-08
Yamaha touts this as a universal player however it has a very hard time tracking dvd-rs, SACD and other formats. I hope yamaha has worked out the bugs on the newer dvd-s2700. by the way, my player is back at the repair shop for the 4th time in 3 months. let's hope Yamaha corrects this situation
Run away from this unit.......2007-04-01
I had the DVD-2300 unit which preceeded this unit and found the picture and sound quality excellent. Based on this experience I purchased the 2500 without a real review or test drive... Big mistake.
$39 DVD players track discs better... You do have time to make popcorn while the unit attempts to recognize a disc.
Picture quality good but not outstanding... Audio was excellent. Sync problems... How could Yamaha release a dog like this to the market.
Yamaha will never get my money again... Total junk.
Has Tracking Problem.......2006-12-30
I just bought Yamaha player for Xmas.
It has great sound quality.
However, it fails to track some (not all) CDs and makes loud noise as laser pick-up is trying to adjust itself.
As the other review indicates, this problem is worse at the beginning of discs and improves for later tracks.
Have to take it factory service.
Disappointed.
Audio not sync'd to Video.......2006-12-28
I've owned a DVD S2500 since July. Sometime within the last two months the audio and video on commercial DVDs have gone out of sync. This is most noticeble at the start of a disk, but seems to improve later. I don't think that this happened when the player was brand new. I use the HDMI output to a Denon receiver. Looks like I will have to return the player for factory service. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this problem.

This is the worst!.......2005-07-05
I was so proud of my cute litte phone when I got it, now I'd like to throw my cute little phone into the wall. The answering system is clear and fine, the reception is ok - but stay clear of the microwave. However, the keypad is horrible. I get double entries, 6 is 9, 7 is 3, 8 is 6....you get my drift. I now have to dial from the base and wait for an answer before i can use the handset. As for the battery, it last for about 45 minutes then it's time to charge. What a waste!
Absolutely a junk handset.......2005-05-16
I have been using this type of phone (Model 27993GE-B 1334HY) about 7 months. Handset is identical but the base is little bit different. Its answering machine is awesome but the handset is awful. Problem began just after 2 months; caller in the other end cannot hear me. It happened sometimes and became worse; and right now, nobody can hear me. I guess it's not a problem with battery. I contacted the distributor through email, but the answer was not satisfactory. I never recommend this phone for anybody.
First speaker broke, then keypad stopped working.......2004-08-26
Our previous Panasonic cordless 900MHz phone was replaced with this GE phone when the Panasonic keypad stopped working.
We liked the CID and answering machine. The sound quality and battery life were good. We were perfectly happy with the phone for some months. But then the speaker in the base station for the speakerphone stopped working. I replace it with a speaker from an old junk answering machine. Not great, but usable (speakerphone is not that important for us). Now with over a year of use the GE keypad has stopped working (have to press multiple times. Sometimes you end up getting a double entry. Very frustrating when you have to attempt to dial multiple times).
Taking apart the phone, it has the keypad construction as our Panasonic had. Some kind of black disks embedded under keypad buttons make contact with against the circuit board when the buttons are pressed. I assume these disks are supposed to be conductive (but they have a high resistance). There was also some lubricant. Anyway, these keypads are definitely not built to last. I had expected to use this phone for many years. Why should you have to replace your phone every year or two? I will not be buying a Panasonic or GE again, nor any phone with the same kind of keypad (maybe all brands use the same keypad technology?).

I bought this phone about 18 months ago, and have not been happy with it from the beginning. NOW, the buttons are broken......you have to pound on ALL of them to get them to work. I live alone, so it's not like there is a rough-and-tumble bunch of kids using it.
Also, the answering system is below quality, and when you are receiving another call, the call-waiting buzz/beep is WAY too long.
Overall, a very, very disappointing purchase. I am now in the process of looking for a replacement.
