The 8610, a Virgin Mobile exclusive, features a large color display, a speakerphone, support for Virgin Mobile wireless Internet services, and much more. This sporty companion keeps you in step with the latest mobile technologies at a great price.

Design
The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a large 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. A monochrome 96 x 64 pixel supplementary display on the outside of the cover displays incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, graphics and more. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. Meanwhile, the top right side of the unit houses an extendable antenna while the combined charging/USB data port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. The phone also features a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets. Up/down keys are located on the left side of the unit for quick volume control.

Calling Features
The 8610's built-in address book can store up to 300 entries for quick and easy management of your contacts. The phone comes with built-in Virgin Mobile "superphonic" ringtones plus a vibrating alert. Superphonic ringtones feature real music tracks and more are available via Virgin Mobile's VirginXtras service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling. A built-in speakerphone lets you talk handsfree while you're on the go.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 8610 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text messages easily and quickly (Virgin Mobile text messaging charges apply). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The phone fully supports Virgin Mobile's wireless content service, VirginXtras. Use the pay-per-use service to download superphonic ringtones from Hip Hop songs to movie themes. Get content and vote in TV-based polls via the MTV area of your phone, or get jokes and updates from Comedy Central. Pick a celebrity voice to answer your voicemail, or get a Sponge Bob thought of the day. Need to jog your memory? Use Virgin's wacky song ID service. Press the Song ID command, point your 8610 towards a song that's playing in the room, and within minutes a text message appears identifying the song's title.

The 8610 ships with a number of handy tools including a calendar, a calculator and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The 8610 features custom Virgin Mobile graphics-- screen savers, wallpaper and menu icons-- that let you dress up your phone to suit your personality. Two pre-loaded games come with the phone, Blackjack and Magic Hexa.

The Audiovox 8610 weighs 3.4 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.90 x .90 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.0 hours of digital talk time, and up to 168 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 1900 frequency. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Terrible Battery Life.......2007-12-02

If you don't use the phone, you'll have to charge it every other day. If you talk on it, even just a little bit, it will go dead in about 2 hours.

First of all, my 8610 has what I would call barely passing qualities. It only works in high density population areas, goes out underground, and is very hard to hear conversations with. The main reason I am writing this is the dishonest service I have gotten from Virgin Mobile. They added an extra service to it, "Joke of the Day", without me giving the OK, and charged me for it. I hadn't used my phone in a week and discovered all of these "Jokes of the Day", and a with a message from Virgin, a week ago, telling me they were starting the "Joke" service, with payment, unless I indicated not to. I feel that I should be given the choice of saying "Yes" or "No" before the service is started. Well, the "Joke" is on them, I'll be dropping them and looking for someone more honest and reliable. Also, I know someone else who had Virgin pull a similar stunt on. the person stopped the 'extra' service, and later on, VIrgin started it up again, without notifying them.

A Waste of Time & Money.......2007-03-28

My old Audiovox phone, the 8500 was great. It fell in the toilet, though, and they didn't sell them anymore at the Virgin webstore, so I bought the 8610 at a local Sprint store. What a big mistake. It is awful with the poor sound quality, short battery life, horrible ringtones, and worst of all, I was unable to ever retrieve my voicemail! Hello? and it has the most horrible graphics. Does anyone want to buy it, along with all the accessories?? It is barely used...

So I looked on Ebay and found a used 8500 and bid on it, won it, and now I am happy again as it is far superior to the 8610. I like the 8500s micro-size, simplicity, ringtones, animated graphics, etc. I must be careful not to lose it, or drop it in the toilet again, though. My 8500 was replaced last year when I lost the first one, but I cannot get another replacement as I bought this one used.

The pay as you go works fine for me as I do not want to have a cell phone clued to my head. I use it to check my land line for messages and for brief calls. Do not buy the 8610, whatever you do!

This is a great phone for a first phone for kids. I have had it for six months and it is the best one I have ever had. I like it so much that I don't wanna get rid of it!

This phone is great! I got it for Christmas and it works like a charm! The loud speaker is excellent and the ringtones are cool. Some of the wallpapers are a bit weird but they have nice ones too. The ringtones are loud and you can easily hear it ringing. the LCD screen is big and the menus are easy to navigate. The buttons are a comfortable size and I love this phone. So far I haven't found any flaws at all and the phone has great battery life. I had to keep it on for a few hours and the bars stayed the same! I highly reccomend this phone to any who like it. The phone is light weight and small and it doesn't get in the way! I love this phone and have encouraged someone to get one already. Even though it doesn't have a camera, I'd say that it is still great! As for the cons....I cannot think of any and anyone who says that you cannot hear it ring or Virgin Mobile is no good has the wrong company. Virgin Mobile is great but not designed for those people who are on their phones all day. It's not the phone's fault.

I have a Win98SE OS and the manual says the product is compatible for the cameraphone's model and OS,but the Motorolla toll free number says I have to get the 3.0-3.5 version for my OS and so I recently did so from Amazon..in the beginning the pixs transfer was working but the internet access say an error message stating port not available or something like that..I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it several times as well as downloading the slow live update from a 4.122 to a 4.221 version and it still did'nt work..maybe I'm doing something wrong,but then again I'm not computer savvy..good luck if you can figure it out..I think the 3.0 version would work from Amazon..

My experience with the data cable and attendant software is limited to preparing and loading midi files to my phone and to uploading pictures from my phone to my computer. Still, it works great for that - I have had no problems and the midi editor works well and was easy to learn to use. It is certainly hard to go wrong with it for under $20.00.
