The Only DVD Recorder to Buy.......2007-10-01

I have a lot of DVDs. The first DVD Recorder I bought was the Phillips big paperweight. That was a waste of money. The Medion, by comparison, is smaller, more dependable, has almost as many features and never gives me a problem. It also costs less and lasts longer. I always look for more of this model (40570) on the auction website and on Amazon. There is no need to look at other DVD recorders or spend a lot of time and money when this unit has all the features at a low price.

Medion = Mediocre.......2007-08-07

I bought a Medion thinking maybe I'd be getting good German technology. After having multiple flaky problems, I researched and found out that they're either made in China or Taiwan, depending on the model. When my remote stopped working, I was informed by Medion "support" that the remotes are not available, but could be "back-ordered" for $40 plus tax and shipping. I also discovered at that point that none of the manual operation buttons on the front of the unit worked either.

Before having problems, I bought a different model Medion for friends. That model had problems finalizing disks. Half would fail. Having failed, the discs were ruined. Huge waste of money.

The life of both units was about a quarter that of the worst quality VCR I've ever owned. Considering the heavier wear and tear on the more complicated VHS mechanisms, it's a disgrace that a DVD recorder is that much less durable.

Medion is made by Tevion, so they're on my dead list as well... along with any other Medion related products. I will be sticking with Japanese electronics from now on, and only the better name brands.

I like this system, very easy to use. Friend of mine gotten a new dvd player and couldn't play a couple of DVDs that the box said could play, but my medion was able to play them easily. Only draw back in the DVDs that you recorded on, you can't play them in a different DVD recorder, you can play them in another dvd player, but not another dvd recorder unless of the same brand. I found this out by a tech that repaired my machine. So, I bought another one. I also bought one for a friend of mine. I can't speak for other dvd recorders since I never really used one (one I had, I took it back when it wouldn't play the ones I already recorded). The medion however, no problem and very good machine. It also has PAL format for European dvds.
