Just try to get service!.......2007-12-21

While the picture and features of this TV are great for the price, you will be very unhappy should you have any problem with it. Mine keeps switching inputs for no apparent reason and going blank. Also the sound does not work with the HDMI input. Westinghouse service admits these are problems when I call but the only solution is to ship them the TV in California because they have no parts for it already. Neither do they have any local service center where it could be returned. The freight to ship it to California is $245.00. Great warranty, isn't it? My advice is to pay more upfront and get a brand that has manufacturer's support.

Terrible sound. Impossible to calibrate. Yellow lines on some HD channels. No pnp. Stay away from this one even if they give it away.

I began shopping around for mid-size LCDs to replace my aging Toshiba CRT HDTV a few months ago. After a lot of research, my heart was pretty set on a 40" Samsung 1080p LCD. Having recently moved from a house in a college town to a downtown city apartment, however, both cash constraints and a lack of space both became an issue. When I saw the price on this baby on Amazon, I snapped one up right away. For just over a 1/3 of the price of the Samsung, the Westinghouse is a great deal- and it's no slouch in the performance department.
Shipping from TigerDirect was fast and thier support staff helpful(I only called them because I lost the tracking # they sent me upon purchase). Once I recieved it via UPS, I had it out of the box and set up in a few short minutes. The picture is great! I have a smaller Samsung 720p set in the bedroom and I really can't more than a tiny difference in quality. The 720p looks sharp to me; I've never spent much time with a 1080p set but supposedly at under 50" or so it deosn't make much difference. Xbox 360 looks great! Halo 3 is a blast to play on the Westinghouse! HD broadcasts look pretty good too, though the picture quality varies wildy depending on the show and network.(Heroes > Pushing Daisies). Broadcast HD pales in comparison to Hi-Def discs - I tried out some demo material on the Westy (Planet Earth and 300) and it rocked them!
The only slight dings that cause this TV to lose a star are :
1) Inputs - just 2 component, 1 VGA and 1 HDMI for HD inputs. With the aid of a component switcher, I'm able to get by for now. But if I ever end up getting a PS3 I'll have to reconfigure my set up somehow.
2) There is not much functionality are far as adjusting picture/apect ratio. This is not a big deal for me as the picture was set up nicely out of the box [...]; but lots of people like to fiddle with these settings.
This set deserves 4.5 stars really; if your a little bit strapped for cash you really can't go wrong with this TV for a mid-sized LCD.
