Great product, horrible support.......2007-12-20
We have had our LVM-37W3 for some time, and it's been mostly good - good features, good picture. However, it's had one annoyance: it has a tendency to switch inputs randomly at least once after each time it has been turned on (usually twice). Pick up the remote, switch it back. Not the worst problem, but really irritating.
Now, we've seen other reports of this on the internet saying that this is solved by a firmware upgrade. But calling Westinghouse Digital's support is pretty much a waste of time. They refuse to admit that there are firmware upgrades. Their only answer is to ship the unit back and they'll send us a different refurbished one.
We keep calling, hoping to get someone who is a little more helpful. But alas, still no luck. The last time we called the person actually suggested that our remote control was "leaking" signals that the monitor was picking up, and suggested that we move the remote to the garage to see if the problem went away. Sigh.
Read the Westinghouse warranty before you buy..........2007-10-25
No more Westinghouse products for me. I ordered this monitor from J&R for $1199. After about 6 months thick, black, vertical lines appear on the screen. Westinghouse customer support tells me to ship to Santa Fe Springs, CA for about $250 including packaging or deliver to nearest service center at 300 miles roundtrip. I chose to drive the thing to Tempe, AZ. A week later the service center tells me that Westinghouse will not send them the part (new LCD panel) and I need to pick up the TV and send it to California for repair. Excuse me? What is the purpose of a service center? Westinghouse also states it may be 6-8 weeks turnaround after they receive the unit. I would need to invest about half of the current selling price by the time I get this back. I am going to relegate it to the dungeon for the kids, which is exactly what customer service expects. Westinghouse.. You win.
Fine for the price.......2007-06-28
This is probably the cheapest 1080p display on the market in the mid-2007. Given the price, I have no major complaints. Here are a few minor issues:
1. Lack of tuner. This is no big deal as my cable service requires an HD cablebox anyway.
2. Only one HDMI input. This is a minor inconvience since, like most owners, I need to hook it up with at least the cablebox and an HD-DVD. Component video to the rescue.
3. Poor contrast. The black level is quite poor and the backlighting is uneven, but if the movie is engrossing enough, you probably won't notice the problem after 5 minutes. Sports is no issue at all.
4. Only two scaling options. This one bugs me the most. It has no option to enlarge letterboxed material to fill the screen. Oh, well, I can always watch the plasma downstairs instead.
Nice but some issues..........2007-06-23
Okay, I've had mine for over a year now and this is what I've run into.
It has really good color, very sharp and very solid. Good contrast too. It translates all of my cable TV HD content just fine. As a monitor, using my DVR as my tuner, it does just fine.
Down side. It'd be nice to have 2 HDMI ports. The audio is a problem; you cannot feed from the TV to an audio tuner and have both play. It's either/or; either the TV audio or the tuner audio. I'm using to splitter to solve that, but it results in some serious audio loss.
Also, if you watch a lot of SD content, I have noticed some problems with ghosting when I go back to HD. Just started in the last couple of months, but it's definitely here to stay. Essentially the monitor is wearing out already. Now, I've probably put 3400 hours on this guy, so that's alot. But it'd be nice for it to last a little longer.
The only other complaint is more an annoyance. It occasionally has trouble initially syncing to some HD stations. Splits the screen, with the bottem in the middle, wrapping top to bottom. You just have to power cycle, but it can be annoying.
Anyway, I really like the monitor, and the price was good. But I'm a little sad that it is wearing out already.
A Unique and Amazing Product.......2007-06-16
I am an extremely happy owner of this display. Other than its amazing value and quality, what really impressed me was the wide range of inputs it supports. Even among the displays that cost over twice the price of this one, I have yet to find one that supports such a diverse array of inputs. I have never seen another display of this size and resolution that supports DVI and VGA input as well as component and HDMI. You can pretty much connect anything to it.
The lack of TV-Tuner is a plus in my book (since it reduces price and some bulkiness)--most cable/satelite setups these days provide--or even require--their own box anyway (this is automatically true if you use any form of Hard Disk recorder).
