MAXELL P-9 U2 Digital Ear Buds - You get what you pay for no more, no less .......2007-12-09
I just picked up MAXELL P-9 U2 Special Edition iPod Digital Ear Buds for $3.in an overstock store.
PROs- the price, volume slider, carrying pouch, extra silicon ear bud covers(although they are cheaply made). Efficient- they are louder than my Panasonice 50-He while at the same volume of my Mp3 player/ They are as comfortable as most in-ear silicon tipped ear buds.
CONs- the sound is boomy and lots of detail in the whole range is compromised.
I have mixed feelings about these ear buds- they provide a more intimate sound (similar to the Koss "The Plug")as if the sound is right inside your head, compared to the sony, phillips, koss and panasonic in-ear ear phones they sound as if the mid-range has been boosted with a muffled over all-sound.
I would say they are worth the $3. I paid for them, and would use them for situations where clarity isn't a requirement e.g. for blocking out sound while using a public computer and watching to a YouTube video.
Comfort and Quality.......2006-06-15
I'm baffled by such negative reviews for this product, as they've singlehandedly convinced me to pursue in-ear earbuds for my iPod.
They're *extremely* comfortable, and I really enjoy being able to control the volume on the cable.
The sound quality is great - I definitely prefer them to the standard issue iPod headphones. I have found I don't even really need noise-cancelling headphones when I'm wearing these.
One other feature I appreciate is the little black carrying case. I've found that if I put the earbuds into the pouch, I can tuck it under the belt clip for easy storage.
The only thing I didn't like was the design. I'm not a huge fan of red-and-black, and didn't realize I was buying a U2 special edition set.

Instead of just griping about the Maxell ear buds' deplorable sound quality, permit me to recommend a superior alternative.
"Customers who viewed this" set of Maxell ear buds would be better off listening to music/podcasts by pressing a stethoscope (check this website for availability) against the outside of any mp3 player.

AWWFUL Garbage Sound.......2006-01-13
I have tried so hard to find a good replacement set of ear buds for my Ipod and these ARE NOT IT. They have a horrible tinny and weak sound. I tried everything to improve the quality of the sound, but when you start with a poor and cheap (very cheap plastic and wiring) materials, you get a poor product. These really sound worse than the 99 cent headphones from the dollar store.

They sound muddy, indistinct and filtered, almost as if someone were playing music loudly while you were underwater. The headphones the ipod brings are incomparably better, which should give you an idea as to how horrible this product is. Under no circumstances should you even consider purchasing this.

I wish I had looked a little closer at the picture for the Jumpdrive Secure II Plus before I bought it. I selected this version because I needed the security. However, the keyring hole is in the cap, which is held on by a simple pressure-fit connection. This means that the entire device can easily get lost, and all your data with it.
