Just got one from Computer Geeks. Delivery was fast, but the packaging was trashed. Looked like it took a trip around the world a few times, and handled by gorillas before ariving. Openned it up and it looked like I wasn't the first to be in there. But everything worked. I suspect it is refurbished, even though it's advertised to be new.
Set it up and it looks nice. The casing design is sharp looking. The quality is decent. My only gripes are it displays a big, blue Dell logo for a few seconds each time you turn it on. (hopefully a way to turn that off). The other bad thing is the blacks are not too black. A common problem with cheaper LCDs. I guess they call that contrast ratio. It's not so good on this TV.

Multiple defective units.......2007-11-30
I have used Maxtor 250 GB external drives for years. Only of several units failed. But I have had terrible experience with the 1.5 TB Maxtor drive. First unit installed ok (as mirrored backup drive), but failed after two months. Replacement unit was DOA. It would not install properly. Second replacement unit would not format at first, but after many tries did format and run briefly. It is now inoperative. Maxtor should not be selling the 1.5 TB units. I have since learned that many others have also had bad experience with them. This has been very time consuming for me. It is ironic that the system I purchased as a highly reliable, mirrored backup drive was so unreliable itself.
Monster Storage!.......2007-04-24
I've been a huge fan of the Maxtor External Firewire drives for the last 3-4 years. They've all been as solid as the day I plugged them in. When I needed a large capacity drive, I new this would be it. The storage space is incredible. 1.5TB equals about 1500GB! I recently took 2 large boxes full of cds/dvds/zip disks and moved all the files to the drive. Didn't even make a dent. I'm still transferring files from all the sources I could think of... A great drive to archive all of my digital assets with plenty of room for all my daily work. And the Firewire 800 is the only way to go these days. Lighting transfer speeds! (Although in 3-4 years we'll probably be laughing at how slow and how small the drive is...but for 2007, it's incredible technology)
When you need some serious storage space with super fast speeds and reliability, the 1.5TB Maxtor will certainly do the job.

Serious issues with later revs.......2001-11-20
These used to be some of the best cards to have, back when they were based on the REAL Digital Tulip chip. However, some years ago the Tulip went out of production and Netgear switched to an _almost_ compatible clone chip.
The LiteOn PNIC chip that the current cards use has a poor reputation (from what I've read) in the development community. I personally have used dozens of these cards over the past two years and have seen almost every manner of failure. We've had cards that can't auto-neg, ones that never seem to work, and worst of all, cards that will work for weeks and then die without warning. From what I've seen, these things never get decent performance, especially with multiple cards in a system.
I have used the FA310TX with Windows 95,98,NT,2k, Linux 2.2-2.4, and Free/OpenBSD. Across every OS and hardware platform I've tried I've seen the same problems, so it's definately not driver or configuration issues.
