Great for Do-It-Yourself laptop upgrade.......2007-12-24
I bought this enclosure to upgrade my Dell notebook's 5400rpm hard drive to a Hitachi 7200rpm hard drive. The aluminum case is very slim and solid, and it was easy to plug in the new hard drive and make a clone of my data using using Norton Ghost 2003. I made the swap and now my notebook runs faster and my old 30GB drive is in the case as external storage via the USB 2.0 cable. Product includes a nice pocket-size leather carrying case. Only small cricitism is that the USB cable is a bit longer that what I need, and it does not fit into the carry case with the drive. I was very impressed by this Adaptec case, so I ordered three more of them for use at work in my computer geek job. Nicely engineered product and definitely worth the money.
Simplicity.......2007-10-27
It was easy to install laptop hard disk into enclosure. Simply remove two small phillips head screws which hold the cover in place, align the drive with the connector, slide the into the enclosure, replace the screws and tighten. Your portable drive is now ready to use.
Functional and inexpensive.......2007-10-13
I bought this to rescue my old laptop's hard drive. Instructions are extremely simple, and only require the drive and a Phillips-head screwdriver. This thing needs the power from two USB ports, so plug the cable into the computer before you plug it into the drive.
It works perfectly under Ubuntu 7.10, and allowed me to see and mount all the partitions on the drive as if they were separate removable drives. I'm getting something like 8 MB/sec transfer speeds off it now with USB 2.0.
One reassuring note: The instructions say "A new disk drive must be formatted before use. Refer to your operating system documentation for instructions", but any drive that already HAS data on it has already been formatted.
All in all, I'm very pleased thus far.

Delivery was prompt but when I received the enclosure, I found my old Dell laptop hard drive was not compatible with it. Baffled, I began a series of emails with the distributor who was always very eager and quick to help. As a person with mild computer aptitude, they explained that Dell often put adapters on their hard drives in order to work with their systems. They told me how to remove it and the hard drive in the new enclosure works great! I would have been sunk without Genioworx's immediate help.

I purchased this item as an emergency "save my stuff!" attempt after a faulty power source nuked my laptop's motherboard.
This item, essentially, turns any 2.5" hard drive into a giant USB drive. Installation wasn't exactly smooth--the aluminum casing wasn't an exact fit, and I had to remove screws from my drive because the heads wouldn't clear the drive to fit inside. That fact aside, it was as easy as sliding the drive into the casing, screwing it shut, and plugging the USB adapter into a working computer. Within seconds, I was accessing all of my files and programs I thought were lost for good!
Installation tweeking aside, this is an EXCELLENT product!
