Great TV .......2007-06-08
I have owned this TV since 2-15-07 . I got that Cracking sound so many talked about for the first 2 months now it went away . I did some research on found on the web that its just the plastic case adjusting to the heat. Other wise awesome TV. I send all my sound thru receiver so sound is not an issue that a few complained about . In fact next week Buying the 32 inch version of this for the bedroom . Friends bought other TV'S and think I HAVE BETTER PICTURE.
Good tv bad build quality.......2007-05-03
This is my second TV that I have got. The first one had creaking sounds coming from inside the moment you start the TV. The second one has the same problem too. The sharp customer service sucks big time.
The picture quality is good. The set up is easy too.
Great TV but..........2007-04-12
This TV gives a beautiful picture. But, as some other reviewers have mentioned, there's this little problem with the "creaking" or "clicking" or "ticking" noise, whatever you call it, when the TV is warming up or cooling down. On our first one, this noise got to be so distracting that we returned it as defective and got a new one. Unfortunately the new one has this problem too, though it hasn't gotten as bad as the first one yet. The jury is still out whether we will keep it.
We are on our third Sharp LCD now, all have had great pictures but have had minor but annoying quality control issues.

This is our first LCD TV. Our tube TV finally died. My wife actually picked out this unit and Consumer Reports also recommended this unit. We purchased it directly from AMAZON on January 23, 2007. I wanted to wait a couple of months before I write my review to see if anything happens. But to my surprise the TV is still running and there have been no problems. We have digital HD and the pictures are great. It took me a couple of weeks to get use to watching tv with such sharp color and contrast. However, if you are watching normal digital programming you may not be too happy as it is flat. But overall its a good buy for us.

The pros:

The cons:
1. TV makes a clicking noise when first turned on (while warming up) and when turned off (cooling down). I thought maybe it was just my TV but I saw this on another review also. I don't know if something is wrong (everything is functioning just fine), but it can be a bit disconcerting.
2. Volume is really low. During normal viewing, in a quiet room sitting about 8 feet away, I have the volume turned up about halfway. In my opinion, thats too much for normal viewing, because there is no situation that I would have it any lower. On a quieter program, or with a little background noise, I have had the volume at the max, just for normal audio.
3. The black levels are a weakness. Its not that black doesn't look nice and dark, its just that there is no detail or contrast in the blacks. I think Sharp tried so hard to make it as black as possible, that all details are gone. For example, if someone is wearing a black suit, it is nice and dark on screen, but you can't see the folds and creases like you would if it was any other color.
As far as overall picture quality (other than the black issues listed above), its mixed. I believe the negatives in terms of image quality is more from the source than the TV. Some broadcasts (like sports on ESPN, Americon Idol on Fox, Discovery HD) look amazing. Others (like TNTHD, and news) often look OK, but don't impress. On the worst broadcasts, skin tones are off, colors look overly saturated, and images show what looks like fine, very faint, static in the picture. I know that digital broadcasts don't have static, but that is the best way to describe the look.
Also, channels like ESPN and Fox broadcast in 720p while TNT broadcasts in 1080i, which is part of the difference in picture quality. Long story short, except for the black levels, with my HD cable, I think the picture quality capability of this TV outdoes the picture quality of most broadcasts it receives. Short of getting a "Death-Ray" player, I don't think most users will see the limitations of this TV in terms of picture quality (other than the black issues).
Standard definition looks just fine. Like watching a normal TV. DVDs look really good, although its easy to get spoiled watching in HD so often, that you may not want to watch DVDs all that much.
All in all, after owning this set for about a month, there is still no other set that I would rather buy. I think 37 to 40 inch 720p TVs are the "sweet spot" in terms of price/value/features. Save the big screen 1080p TVs for when 1080p broadcasts are common, and HD-DVD and Death-Ray is more affordable.

Very Quick and Easy Setup.......2007-11-20
I selected this unit because I use an iMac for my home business and I generate a lot of photos....over 50,000 high-res images in the past two years. I settled on the Western Digital My Book HD because of its Firewire 400 hookup and its 500 GB of storage. The fact that the manufacturer markets to Mac users was also a plus.
It took me all of 5 minutes to unpack the device, hook it up using the supplied Firewire cable, plug it in, and start using it. I set up the hard drive to transfer 1,368 photos (a wedding I shot two weekends ago), then walked away. In 30 (or so) minutes all images were copied to the device...flawlessly and efficiently.
I have two other external HDs that I also copy photos to, but the Western Digital My Book HD was vastly superior to them in terms of ease of setup and startup.
Good external HDD.......2007-11-10
Good external HDD for backing up your important data. Not only does it take up half the room of my Lacie HDD, but it has three interfaces (USB 2.0, FireWire 400 & eSATA). Since I use an iMac, I was looking for the FireWire connectivity at a reasonable price.
PROs: triple interface, small size, good price per GB, sturdy design.
CONs: indicator light is useless, too many similar versions to choose from (home, essential, pro, premium, studio).
