Great Low Frequency Response and Very Comfortable!.......2007-12-17
So, no... I haven't tried the more famous Bose Earbuds, and no, I haven't tried the V-MODA Vibe Earbuds either, (The 2 biggest competitors for the Sony's EX90s). When it came time for me to purchase my new pair of in-ear headphones, I decided on the EX90s. Why, you might ask? Simple... The 13.5 mm drivers on the EX90s have a serious advantage over the 9mm drivers from its competitors.
Bigger drivers means bigger sound. We all know this. Tower speakers sound better than satellite speakers. It's not a debate, it's a fact. So I just figured, why wouldn't it be the same for earbuds?
Like I said before, I didn't get a chance to try the other leading earbuds, but I can say this... The Sony MDR-EX90's sound amazing and they are very comfortable. That's all I wanted in my new Earbuds... Great sound and comfort. I read a ton of reviews on just about every make and model for earbuds and found that no matter which pair I was looking to buy, someone would complain about the sound and the that the earbuds didn't fit right, or they were uncomfortable, or they would always fall out of their ears. Check it out, unless you have mutated ear canals, the EX90's WILL fit in your ears. You'll have 3 different sizes to choose from, so if you can't make this things fit, you probably have really weird shaped ear canals. I don't know of a nicer way to say this!
I'm a fitness junkie. I work out 2 hours a day, 6 days a week and not once have these headphones caused any discomfort to my ears. Also, the right earpiece on the EX90's has a longer cord so that it swings around the back of your neck. This is a nice feature because it keeps the cord out of the way when doing pushups, or any other exercise that requires you to lean forward. Another plus of the wrap around the neck style is that you can take them out and rest the earbuds on your shoulders while you talk to someone. Sounds lame, but trust me, it comes in handy! They also stay in for when you're jogging. Not once have they fallen out during a morning run!
You have the Sony name, the larger 13.5 mm driver, the wrap around the neck cord style, and last I checked these were $30 cheaper then the competitors I mention above. Great low frequency response, punchy mids and crystal clear highs make the Sony EX90's a perfect purchase for anyone looking for high quality in-ear headphones.
Not the best in the class..........2007-11-15
Amazon's performance and service was great as always: fast, easy, and painless. I've received the package way before the expected date! I've been looking for earphones for my PSP and possibly for my Ipod. I had very high hopes for these earphones, unfortunately...
The looks: Sony MDR-EX90LP earphones look like of a very high quality, feel very solid built and metal casing gives them feeling of more "luxurious" touch. I've always liked the wire design that Sony uses with their earphones, which goes over your neck and very helpfull if you need to pull earphones out for a minute or so, they won't be tangling all over the floor. Pretty much what I've expected from sony being it's long term fan!
In the box: The package comes with three sizes (S,M,L) of exchangeable earbuds and they can be swapped pretty easily. Also, there is a neat leather case for carrying and keeping them safe. I didn't like that there was no space in the case for those other two pairs of earbuds, just in case if I'm traveling and I lost the one that I had on my earphones, or simply for storing them, since I don't think a lot of people including me would use the case every single day.
Performance: About 7-10 years ago if I wanted really nice earphones, I would buy Sony's without even testing or comparing them to something else, but now there are so many companies trying to compete. I think there are much better products for this price range out there! Please don't get me wrong they do perform very well. One thing that made me look at them was their 13.5mm driver which isn't common at all among earphones. Being a big fan of clearity and bass in music, I expected much more from these earphones. I compared them to my Apple Ipod In-Ear Headphones (don't confuse with the ones that come with Ipods, which are total trash in my opinion) and I was very disappointed with Sony's performance. At first, I thought that Sony's sounded pretty good, until I decided to campare them to Apple's earphones. Even though Sony claims and has it in big writting on the box of their product "DEEP BASS" it definitely wasn't the case. Mids and treble were on about the same level with Apple, but clearity of Bass and overall sound was much better with Apple's earphones (which go for around 40$ by the way). Used my computer, Ipod Nano, PSP, and Ipod Shuffle for comparison.
I understand that they need to have some time to "break-in" and earphones become much better over the time, but still couldn't justify the price tag of almost a 100$, amazon's price a little bit cheaper). In my opinion, Apple is way better in performance and for much less. I've had them for over a year now, and still very satisfied with them.
Gave it 2 stars because they of a high quality and have great looks, but don't do what they supposed to...
Excellent.......2007-11-07
I have used MDR-EX90LP for about 6 months now and have been extremely impressed with their performance. The bass is strong and punchy the mids feel full and the highs crisp. I have compared these directly with Shure, Sennheiser and a few others and I think the MDR-EX90LP have the best overall sound for what I listen to (pop/rock/electronic). It seems like it's the large driver that makes the difference and I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else try something similar. They're also very comfortable. I can wear them all day at work and my ears won't get sore (which is something I can't say for the 'stuff it deep in your ear canal' type ear buds). They feel sturdy although i have lost the rubber piece of the end a few times having it catch on something while stuffing the buds into my bag. All things considered they're very good value for money. Best overall earbud I have owned by far.
Frankenbuds.......2007-08-13
I love every Sony product I have ever owned, from my first Walkman to my new HDTV, so I was biased in favor of the brand when I decided to spring for these. Well, these are the exception that prove the rule--HATED them. First off, they were quite uncomfortable no matter which set of rubber tips I tried. Not only were they loose, the metal edges dug into my ears. And because they were loose, I got terrible sound. I had to hold them in, pushing with my fingers, to hear anything, and there was that metal edge again. Obviously, they just don't fit my ears.
Even had they fit, I was shocked by their resemblance to Frankenstein's neck bolts when they were in my ears. Even with my hair partially covering them, they looked very noticeably weird.
I returned them and am now testing out the V-Moda Vibes (V-MODA Vibe Earbuds - Flashback Chrome), which I like much better for comfort, sound quality and appearance. Will also try the Shure e-2c's (Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones), also in the same price range.
solid performer, tough, great bass, good buy.......2007-08-12
I have had the ex90's for about 2yrs now. Use them 5 days a week on my commute. I listen to a lot of 80's rock music which needs bass. The ex90's have it. I have dropped them in coffee, stepped on them, had the wires tangled up in my computer bag which ripped them from my ears all the time. They may look delicate, but there tough every day use. I think they sound great at all frequencies, and are a great buy for $100 bucks. If a little wire danging down upsets you (bothers some reviewers) please don't buy these, and stay inside.

JA Audio meets my expectations.......2007-09-24
I bought two pairs (4 speakers) for my 5.1 surround sound system and was really impressed by its output. It is perfect for midrange and highs, and worked perfectly with my existing sub woofer. The JA Audio speakers replaced Sony 5.1s. Keeping the center speaker and sub woofer, the output in sound is almost identical to the Sonys. Though it doesn't have the bass output, as my Sonys, my sub woofer does make up the difference. Directional tweeters does work and is beneficial to enhance home theater 5.1 surround sound feel. The sound output is crisp and clear. Being a thrifty high-end audio/video enthusiast, I purchased cheap $100 speakers before and were never satisfied. The JA Audios were the first set to meet my expectations in sound quality. I will definitely buy this brand again.
JA Audio 5.25" 2-Way 100 Watt Round In-Ceiling Speaker (Pair).......2007-01-10
Excellent quality sound from inexpensive speakers. Comaparable with my previous Speakercraft speakers at less than half the price. Watch out for the cardboard cutout templates, though - they are too big!

Perfect for the digi scrapbooker!.......2007-07-03
I bought this to store my digital scrapbooking files because there were just too many to bog down my PC. I filled up an 8 gig flash drive in about two weeks and needed something bigger. I had no idea that you could fit so much information in such a small space. Its only slightly bigger than the 8 gig I had and holds 10 times as much. Now I can really play!
