Iomega says it has sold over 100 million of its 100 MB Zip disks, the floppy companions to the Zip 100 drive, and we believe them based on how easy it was for us to set up and use the Zip 100. We just plugged it in, connected a cable to our PC's parallel port, dropped in the CD-ROM, and followed the setup wizard.
The CD-ROM comes with the necessary software to make the Zip 100 act like any other drive on your PC--except the Zip 100 has a 100-MB storage capacity. We set the drive up on our test machine and copying files to and from drive F was just as easy as it was on drive A or C.
You can still use your printer with the Zip 100, as the external drive includes its own parallel port. Iomega recommends that you connect no more than one additional device to the Zip 100, but in our test, we "daisy chained" three peripherals--a printer connected to a scanner connected to the Zip 100 connected to our PC--without encountering any device conflicts.
We used the included 1-Step Backup and 1-Step Restore utilities to back up and restore several hundred megabytes of an old Pentium's hard disk. The process was entirely intuitive and flawless but slow. We did not even approach the claimed 25-MB-per-minute performance, but that's just the way peripheral life is when you're using a parallel port.
The Zip 100 is self-contained, and if you take along the parallel cable and AC power supply, it becomes portable. However, the real convenience comes from the Zip disks themselves. The disks have a tough plastic shell and come in a CD-type jewel box, so little protective precautions are required as you exchange data with Zip-owning friends.

If your computer has a USB port, you should definitely get a USB Zip drive or flash drive because this parallel-port Zip drive is really slow. However, most old computers (i.e. those made before 1997) do not have a USB port or CD-RW drives, and so this Zip drive is the ideal way for transferring data to and from such computers. 100MB Zip discs are pretty cheap, too. But keep in mind that this drive won't recognize 250MB discs. If you think you might need to use those discs in the future, get a 250MB Zip drive instead.

I'm a Mac user, but I also have a Windows PC in my office. My workplace has over 1,000 employees and the majority of them are on Windows, while I am one of 3 people in the organization that consistently uses a Mac.
I am sent files all the time via the Network GroupWare e-mail system. I never wanted to hook my Mac up through all the logging in and everything involved in a Novell system, so I never got the Mac version of the software to connect my Mac fully to the network.
So, when someone sends me a file via GroupWise, I copy the attachment onto my ZIP disk and then eject that disk and put it in my Mac to work on the file. Not the most efficient way to go about things, but this 100MB Iomega ZIP drive hasn't failed me once in the past 4 years.
Since the Mac OS can read both Mac and PC ZIP disks, I use PC formatted disks and move them back and forth from Windows (the Parallel drive) to Mac (the factory installed 250MB drive) all day long.
ZIP disks can hold an equivalent of about 74 floppy disks and the speed is lightning fast when compared to floppies. My only gripe is that Iomega does not make these drives with an on/off switch... even if your computer is off for a week, you've got to unplug your ZIP drive if you don't want it to eat up electricity. Honestly, I doubt that a little ZIP drive that isn't spinning a disk uses more than a single kilowatt hour per month, but it's a waste nonetheless. This one gripe wasn't enough of a drawback to take a star away from the 5 star rating I'm giving this gizmo. It's dependable, it's fast and ZIP is an industry standard. Hats off to Iomega.

I purchased my Plexwiter a little over a year ago. I installed it in my Emachines computer running windows ME. Installing took about 30 minutes using the cable select feature. Software install went smoothly. I did ugrade the Easy cd creator that came with it to the ver.5 Plainum. I have burned well over 500 cd's so far with this drive. Have copied lots of old photos that I scan onto cd's as well as music. Using it to back-up important files as well. Which has saved me much grief over the last year. I purchesed this drive because of reviews of it. I have never had to deal with tech support because it has worked perfectly since installed. Use it everday to view video clips in widows media player. It is realy a champ.

I was impressed at firstt with its attractive price and the positive reviews that I had read online. First off, this drive is LOUD. Secondly, it broke just as its 1 year warranty expired. A service rep told me as it was outside the warranty period, they would charge me [a] flat rate + [extra] S&H to have it fixed. Thats it, I have nothing more to say, next time I will stick with a name brand like Yamaha or Sony.

This cd-rw is absolutly the best! Plaextor makes the ultimate cd burners. This drive is plently fast enough. The instalation instructions are very robust and simple to understand with pictures and detalied information. The burner has burn-proof technology that prevents all of those coasters that you get with other burners. Makes a great add-on to your computer and with a 40x read speed makes a great replacement to that slow cd-rom that may be in your pc now! 10x re-write is great and hard to find that kind of speed on a lot of cd burners. It is quick and very quite if you are burning cds or when you are just using it as a cd-rom it doesn't sound like a jet taking off like many cd-roms that run at this speed
Never gave me any prolems and it at a great price! If you want a cd-burner, or just another cd-rom, Plextor is the way to go!
