No Print Server for All in one.......2007-11-26
This drive does not work as advertised. It does not work with Dell All In One printers. Not only does it not control the scanner, it will not actually print to it. Customer service confirmed this, and said that somewhere on their website, it states this.
The unit makes a grinding noise when starting up, and runs louder than my desktop on a hot day.
Not recommended.
Works great!.......2007-11-14
Purchased this product about a month ago and it works great. Took about 5 minutes to get set up and it's been running ever since (XP Home SP2). I've got a bunch of music and pix that I store on it, as well as my weekly backups of my desktop. They got a 750gig drive too, so if I had to do it over, I'd probably get that one for the extra space. Backup software included is a nice touch too! Highly recommend!
Not a ready product!.......2007-10-12
I purchased this in August and got it up and running nicely on a gigabit network. However, the built-in media server (from MediaTomb) is unstable. I requested Iomega for updated firmware but no response yet (also Iomega's user support forums haven't had discussion of this yet.) The documentation is lacking about the media server and I had to find it from MediaTomb website directly (which has now been removed). Even when using the recommended Firefox browser, this Iomega's media server keeps sending out error - "MediaTomb cannot be reached!...." So stay clear for now. But otherwise when it works, my PS3 displays photos from this server on LCD TV screen through my network. It also works fine as regular NAS file server.

it says it is a 1GB Ethernet but i cant get it up to that
it is only 100MB regular Ethernet speed
also it is not upgradeable
if you want to connect an external hard drive it should be first formated to the old FAT32
and so you cannot use files that are larger than 4 GB which they are lot these days

IOMEGA HDD.......2007-07-19
This device was easily configured (RAID 1) and attached to my network router so that all the computers (4 - XP Pro (2), XP Home and Vista Ultimate 64 bit) in my network could define a network drive to access it. I tried to configure the EMC Retrospect backup software to provide automatic backups on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit. The software caused my computer to crash - I had to remove it. I have been copying files to it in copy/paste mode and it is very slow (slower than writing the same files to a 16x DVD-RW with Roxio). It also does not restart automatically after a power failure - you have to push a button on it to restart it.
I have been using it for about a month.
So Far So Good.......2007-06-28
So far I have used this product for one week and I am using it with two computers "XP" and "Vista Ultimate".
Everything works well including the software that came with it (I did update the software for "Vista Ultimate", using thier website downloads)
I was a little afraid, because of the things I have heard about how "HOT" it runs. Thier website says not to worry about it, but I do.
I went to Target and bought a small 4" fan. When I am putting the "Storcenter Network Hard Drive 500GB" through its paces I turn on the fan I bought at Target and blow on it. This keeps it cool. Maybe, this is overkill, but I feel better knowing it is staying cool.

We have had this functioning as a sharedrive in our office for a few weeks now. A lot quieter than our old SnapServers. We haven't had any problems so far.

Simple but Slow.......2007-05-18
I had this network drive for about a week for use in a small office. I loved the simple interface which ran from a web browser from any computer, windows, mac, or linux. Unfortunately, even setup as raid 0 on a gigabit network, even connected straight to one computer, I only got transfer rates of about 7MBs. In comparison, a regular computer acting as a file server will give you speeds at least twice that. I worked with IOMEGA tech support to try to improve speeds without any luck. They would not tell me what speeds I could expect either. As a backup drive for a few computers, it is fine, but it won't cut it as an office file server.
