This is an EXCELLENT burner! Upgrade the Firmware to ensure compatibility with all of the latest media.
This drive faster is than many other drives that claim to be faster, quieter than most other drives and as reliable as anything.
Add to that the great software package and the good support on TDK's website and you're in for a treat.
The only reason not to get this burner is if you are buying a newer TDK!

this is a pretty good cd-burner....however mines broke...but thats just because i physically hit the tray and broke it by accident. ITS blazin fast at 48x....i can make cd's in about 3 minutes...however the only problem i have to say is that it rejects a lot of my memorex cd-rws for some reason...i'm not so sure about cd-rs but all of my memorex cd-rws have been rejected and caused my computer to either freeze up or the drive to lock up..but other than that its fine..

Well this is my second CD burner and I have had it long enough to see all it features. It is a perfect buy for any one looking for a cheap, economical, and Fast CD writer.
I have noticed that Sony CD-R have trouble being burned and it would cause the system to freeze but other then that this is a very good CD burner.

If you're lookin' for a fast CD burner, your prayers have been answered. This CD-RW drive satisfies the need for speed, economics, and features. It can burn in any format at blazing speed and comes with Nero Express, which is better than regular Nero. I was able to install it without it giving me any difficulty, and have yet to have any problems with it.

Do NOT buy this burner!.......2003-10-31
I ended up w/ this burner as a warranty replacement for my first VeloCD, which went toes up after about a month. Less than a year later, I have a completely useless burner that stalls at 6% and then freezes my entire system. After NUMEROUS emails and phone calls to TDK, I finally got "authorization" to send it in for replacement. I am so fed up, I am going to buy a Lite-On and wash my hands of it.
Look elsewhere....this burner is not work the carboard box it is packaged in.

I won't spend any time on hardware installation - they're all the same when you get right down to it - but I would like to pass along my comments on the drive's performance and the software's ease of use.
I value quiet operation and fast read/write performance and this drive delivers on both. It is much more quiet than the OEM drives that came with both of my Dell desktops and the kids' HP Pavillion. There's no chatter or intrusive mechanical noise at all.
As for speed, this drive tears right through data CDs, music CDs, you name it. It noticeably outperforms a Dell OEM drive with the same nominal speed ratings.
The bundled software is pretty good, too. Nero Express seems easy enough and the TDK Digital Blender software offers a great deal of user flexibility.
This is an excellent hardware/software package. Can't beat it.

I was considering an external CD-RW because I've never had the guts to open up my PC, but when I saw the good reviews of this model, along with a very nice rebate, I figured I'd give it a shot. The installation instructions were extremely helpful, both the "video" and the quick-start poster. It took me about an hour because I was being extremely careful at every step.

... This drive SUPPORTS Mt. Rainier (UDF 1.02), Mt. Rainier is the next generation UDF packet writing technology and it is better than UDF 1.50 which most of us are using right now (if you use packet writing at all). Mt. Rainier UDF technology handles error correction at the firmware level by the drive instead of by the burning software such as InCD, DirectCD, DLA, InstantWrite. The initial format is only 2 mins instead of 45 mins in UDF 1.50.
This drive is very quiet and this is a very rare for drives that run faster than 32x.

I am very happy with my TDK 48X16X48 Drive...Not only it burns my CD's at a Blazing speed But read one of my scratched old favorite Jazz CD's that skips when I play it in my car accurately into crisp MP3 files, I was using "musicmatch JUKEBOX" Rip Utilities.

The external hard drive works great! I got it for xmas of 2005 and havent had a problem with it at all.
I am using it on my Intel Core Mac Mini. It gives me the exta space to store my large files and music.

The drive crashes whenever the computer goes to sleep. Fantom says the only way to recover is to restart the computer. Fantom, instead of fixing things, suggests people turn sleep mode off. Please consider buying from a reliable company.
