When it comes to rating DVD media the only criteria that counts is how well they work in your DVD writer/player. I have tried all the major brands and some of the others as well. This particular Verbatim disk is the only one that has given me 100% burn success with over 200 disks made. In addition they have all played without error in every player tried.
I use a HP DVD1040i and Iomega Super DVD to write my DVDs. Many of the DVDs I create (perhaps half) are given to others, so they are played using many different players.
Your results may be different depending on the equipment you use but these could be worth a try.

Being an old time computer and video geek from way back when, I have gone trough my fair share of various recording media. Recently most of the DVD disk makers have gone to higher speeds and my Panasonic recorder was having quite a few issues with the drive not reading a number of brands. In other words, I was getting quite a few coasters and my recorder is just 2 years old.
On one of my last DVD disk purchases, I picked up a Spindle of 100 DVD-R disks made by Verbatim and was very pleased with the outcome. No more coasters!! Needless to say, I have been burning up a storm with these disks and I will never go back to other brand names.

Never have done a review before, but after trying to burn three of these, I feel I have to warn some people since I bought these solely on the high review compared to Memorex.
I own a MacBook Pro and have been burning movies for a while using Memorex with no problem. Just wanted to try a different brand and boy do I regret it.
Burning is no problem with the Verbatim. Burns fine, verifys ok. Put it in the DVD player, and bam....first one paused, skipped ahead 8 minutes. Second movie paused in several parts. Third movie did the same, pause, restart, pause. Unwatchable. Im seeing if i can actually return these.
Avoid at all costs especially if you have a Mac.

Verbatim knows how to make a quality DVD+R. I have been through four 100-packs without a single coaster (or, in other words, a disk that doesn't burn correctly and ends up in the trash). It's easy to be tempted by the bulk or budget burnable CDs and DVDs, but you quickly realize that you're not saving money when you have to reburn half of the disks due to errors. In my opinion, it's worth it to spend the extra money on the Verbatim name.

I use these disks for all my burning. They are compatable with everything I ahve put them in, including at least 10 different DVD players. I only recently found another brand that seems to work and is much cheaper. Memorex DVD-R, they use to not work in almost any of my DVD players about 3 years ago so I used Verbatim... I was forced to use them about a month ago and now they are working just as good.
Bottom Line, Verbatim is a great fall back and if you want to take a slight chance to save some money try Memorex DVD-r
Best DVD Disks for older recorders.......2007-12-06
Having been into video since the late 70's, I have used numerous products for video recording. Recently DVD makers have gone to higher speed disks and my Panasonic recorder (Just a few years old) was having major problems with reading and writing to a number of brands out there.
I purchased a 100 pack of Verbatim DVD-R disks for my unit and have not had a coaster yet. All were handled well by my Panasonic recorder. After this, I will not buy other brands in the future. If looking for a quality DVD disk that will read and write well with older DVD units, you should check out Verbatim - I think you will be happy with the results!

They are shiny discs of silica.
