NOT plug and play for Vista.......2007-12-27
Despite the installation guide's instructions to the contrary, this drive is NOT plug and play if you have Vista. You have to download a driver from the install CD. Also, you may want to convert it to NTFS as it arrives as FAT32.

I bought this little hard drive in September for my senior design project which was expected to require portable storage for a large number of videos and photographs. I ended up using it for a lot more than just that one class and have definitely gotten my money's worth out of it over the course of this past semester.
The drive is compact and has one USB 2.0 port and an additional USB port for powering the device should you wish to connect to a computer that does not have USB 2.0 power sharing ports. The necessary cables are included with the drive. The orange rubber "bumper" is very shock absorbant and is removable with one face that is open to allow access to the ports. The user can remove the orange rubber "bumper" and put it back on such that the ports are covered up. This is very useful when transporting the drive around campus as the weather in east Tennessee is very unpredictable. Also, my backpack can get rather messy, so I appreciated the ability to better protect the ports.
The drive does run hot sometimes, but that's to be expected as it does not have a fan to keep cool. It's held up very well, and there was no indication that it suffered any damage the one time I accidentally dropped it in the computer lab, not even a scratch in the plastic casing. I've been very impressed with it so far and intend to continue using it for a very long time.
Lastly, I don't know what to make of the reviewer who mentioned it ruining his firewire port when he plugged it in because this drive only has a USB 2.0 port and the additional "power USB" port.
LaCie drive fried my fire wire port.......2007-03-28
I plugged the drive into my fire wire and it destroyed my fire wire port. I called LaCie and they will replace the drive but won't fix my computer. They said it was most likely a short in the drive or cable and their warranty doesn't cover my laptop. Way to stand behind your product guys! So in short I spent almost $300 dollars to have my laptop damaged by this drive and who knows how much repairs will be. I will NEVER buy a LaCie product again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lowell tile bridge Model LBS8-R1 is engineered to distribute the speaker assembly weight to the ceiling support system in a suspended 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 tile ceiling system. Tile bridges are often required, for safety reasons, by local building codes, and for aesthetics to reduce the potential of unsightly ceiling tile sag. For hard ceiling applications, use Lowells PR or XPR Series mounting rings. Lowells tile bridge Model LBS8-R1 may be used with or without a backbox, depending on local building codes and the speaker-grille combination being installed torsion grilles require a backbox. As most installations do utilize a backbox, Lowell engineered a time saving backbox mounting feature. The unique Twistn LockTM feature provides hardware-free backbox mounting to speed system installation and reduce labor cost. The Twistn LockTM feature includes four 4 formed tabs on the tile bridge that align with four 4 punched cut-outs in the lip of designated Lowell backboxes. To install, simply place the backbox on to the tile bridge, align cutouts with the tabs, push down and twist to lock in position no screws or fastening hardware required. Model LBS8-R1 is galvanized 22-gauge steel size 23.75L x 16.5W with multiple forms for strength, a center opening size 10.75Dia., and wire-tie holes at each corner for anchoring where required by code. Companion backboxes and grilles are shown in the chart below. Model Series XCP8 avail. in 4, 5, 7 and 10 depths, IX810 for mounting heavy drivers with torsion grilles, and stacking Model 8XD4 include cut-outs for utilizing the Twistn LockTM feature. Careful, these drives burn CDs that are not compatible with all players, it's very hit or miss. My Chrysler will not even recognize a disc burn by these. Very few problems with burned DVDs.
