Good Drive, Annoying Software.......2007-12-20
I really like my little Memorex drive. It works great with macs (the software doesn't install, it just shows up on your desktop as a disc that you can completely ignore) and it's never lost or corrupted any of my data. I go to a college that primarily uses PCs, so it was important that my drive be compatible with both operating systems. I have found that this drive works pretty well for that. As other reviewers have noted, the U3 software is really annoying but not that big a deal. I've noticed that the drive is a little funky with Windows Vista, but it still works fine and my data has been safe and everything's okay. I would definitely recommend this drive. The software is more annoying than anything else.
excellent.......2007-10-11
This product is great. i am very pleased on how i received my product quickly.
Reliable.......2007-05-25
I have this Mini Drive and the original 1 gb Jump Drive by memorex. For this one Just remove the U3 Software. Google U3 Software Removal and you'll get a link to remove the U3 junk from the jump drive. I don't know what they are thinking installing this U3 on the Jump drive. Once its removed It will work like a regular Jump Drive and be very reliable. All I can say is that this model is much better then the first one memorex had two years ago. Only Con I can think of is that:
1. Cap easy to lost for careless people
2. So Small I tend to misplace it
good produce good price.......2007-05-14
This product is just what our office was looking for.
It does not have the U3 program on it. We did not want the extra program due to the multiple users and multiple PC's they will be used on.
It is small enough for travel yet holds enough info to be very useful to our program.
These will save us hundreds of CD's that we were using to move data from one PC to another.
Warning: Contains AdWare Masquerading as Software!.......2007-05-08
I get so tired of third party programs every time I purchase a piece of hardware like this, and this product's adware is ESPECIALLY ANNOYING!
Beware of the other reviewers here who write these two- or three-sentence reviews with five-star ratings: they must be sales or marketing people who are trying to avoid the negativity of the product they want money for, or else idiots who don't know the subtly connotative differences between software from adware. Also, it keeps putting files on my tower hard drive like a virus or a malware.
This flash disk drive (a.k.a. "thumb drive") by Memorex is mechanically in great condition: it transfers quickly and is extremely smaller than my other flash drives.
Unfortunately, the adware software comes already installed on the drive (in a partition that reads as a CD Rom drive), and can't be removed, unless you go to a website to try to download an update and pull out the flash drive during the update's installation in an attempt to DELIBERATELY CORRUPT the files that keep bothering me.
I get so sick of being disturbed by superfluous third-party software doing nothing more than slowing me down!
Every time I plug in this Memorex flash drive, I get these ten-second interruptions that seem nothing more to me than an explanation that my computer has just figured out this device has been plugged in, like I'm a darn retard (along with a system tray picture advertising "U3!" in the bottom-right corner): "WOW, YOU'VE JUST PLUGGED IN YOUR MEMOREX FLASH DRIVE, THANKS FOR THINKING ABOUT MEMOREX!" It has a picture that nearly covers my monitor! During this moment, I'm thinking, "Get the heck off my screen before I smash this device and buy someone else's products."
When I plug a flash drive or something else into my computer, it's because I'M WORKING; I don't need any interruption from the peanut gallery.
Shame on Memorex for forcing on me these software products that I don't want to be bothered with! If I'm going to pay my money, I'll be buying a brand I can trust NOT TO FORCE ON ME ADWARE MASQUERADING AS SOFTWARE.
I HATE ANY PRODUCT THAT FORCES THIRD-PARTY STUFF ON ME, AND I WANT REVENGE FOR THIS DELIBERATE KIND OF IMBECILITY. They already have my money, and this is the tragedy.
When are you companies going to learn not to shove your names down our throats?
"U3 Smart" is not smart because it doesn't seem to know or care that I don't want its programs. I bought the thing because I wanted storage portability; I can do without the pageant! Even the programs it includes are only trial versions in case you want to spend more money at their website.
The programs that come already installed on the drive allow updates. That's wonderful: just in case I need more advertisements, I can click a button that sends me to their website to update something I don't even want! The only advantage to this was that I could deliberately corrupt their files so as to stop getting interrupted by them. Now that the "U3" files have all been corrupted, it doesn't keep sticking files I don't want on the usable side of the partition, doesn't keep sticking files on my computer, and doesn't keep advertising to me anymore (God has been merciful I guess or whatever floats your boat). The drive works fine, now!
Go ahead and buy this product, as you should be just as happy about it as I am.

Tough, but connectivity issues surfaced.......2007-12-03
No doubt, the case is as tough as available, and few alternatives offer the storage of 16GB - two features which may be enough for most. But, the first unit I had died on day two (Corsair replaced no questions asked), and the replacement unit I received has had intermittent connectivity issues with my USB ports. Sometimes you plug it in and the device is recognized, and sometimes you have to reset the computer or dive into Device Manager.
Transfer speed has varied between 1.5 - 2.0 MB per second.
Product Dimensions.......2007-11-16
The PACKAGE dimensions are 8 x 5.5 x 1.2 inches. The PRODUCT dimensions are 3.25" long x 0.75" diameter. I haven't tried anything else yet, though 16GB in this size at this price seems excellent, indeed.
