Ears overheating from Noise Canceling Device.......2007-12-12
I travel frequently and these were the first pair of NCH's I purchased. Overall, I thought they did there job canceling aircraft noise, but I could only wear them for so long because they made my ears and head extremely warm. At first I thought maybe I head a cold or something, but then it happened everytime I wore them. I returned them to BestBuy and am now on the prowl for something better.

I bought these for use on airplanes, and they do a pretty good job. They are very comfortable with good thick cushions on the ears. And the way they fold up is both really cool to look at as well as well-designed; folded they hardly take up any space at all. They're maybe the size of an apple or orange.
I did try the noise-cancelling option and in all honesty I couldn't tell a difference at all. To me, most of the noise-cancelling comes from the phones surrounding your ears. Some noticed a background buzzing noise but I didn't hear anything; I even tried them in a quiet place just to see. Maybe my noise-cancelling just doesn't work (though the light comes on). But even without that feature having a huge impact, these are really good headphones. The only thing I'd add is a way to increase the volume on the headphones themselves independently of whatever they're plugged into, but other than that, I don't regret my choice.
Well worth the price.......2007-12-08
I purchased these after a lot of research and haven't been disappointed. I was using some in-the-ear phones previously, but the ear plugs kept coming off and getting lost and the battery door of the volume control came off and got lost. So, this time I wanted to go with something simpler, with less wires and less buttons and controls.
Here's what I was looking for and how the Philips headphones stacked up:
1. Good volume. These are great. Connected to either my laptop or my mp3 player there these headphones provide plenty of volume. This was a worry for me because even with an external volume control I had to operate my previous pair at close to maximum. The Philips HN 110 are fine at mid-volume.
2. Good definition. Again, these are almost perfect for me. My hearing is poor and so I don't hear half of what is said when watching TV and movies. When plugged in to these headphone I hear everything. I'm no audio expert, I just want to hear and enjoy songs and what is going on in shows and movies. Now I can.
3. Noise suppression - they're pretty good. I think some people expect noise-canceling headphones will eliminate all outside sounds but I don't think that's possible, and certainly not for $35.00. However I can successfully listen to my mp3 player or to a movie on my laptop in the same room with my wife watching a TV show. I can hear the sound of the show but it is muffled enough that it doesn't bother me and I can easily concentrate on what I am hearing. When my wife wants to talk to me, I can just hear enough to know that she is talking. I usually don't hear the phone ringing. I like my wife and I don't like phone calls so that's just about perfection.
4. Comfort. Here they're not as good. Sometimes I want to relax for several hours and so I want headphones that will let me do so without pain. I have a large head (take a large hat size) and these headphones are very tight. If I get them adjusted just right they don't bother me much but they they do squeeze. I might see if I can stretch them and take out some of the spring.
I didn't buy the headphones because they fold up, but it is a nice feature. I will take them on my next plane trip and fit them in my carry-on or coat pocket.
If I needed a new pair, these are what I would buy.
Very good headphones with few drawbacks.......2007-12-07
I purchased these headphones because I spend a lot of time in airplanes and wanted to watch stuff on my iPod. I haven't used a lot of NC headphones but this one definitely serves its purpose. The NC/reducing function can be toggled from the headset but if you're trying to do this in the dark, you're going to have troubles the first few times. The compact size is great for planes and I've only replaced the batteries once every few days of constant use. I used these headphones on a nearly 20 hour set of flights and the batteries lasted close to the whole time. The noise canceling feature is noticeable when you turn it on or off while you are wearing the headset. Sitting at the window seat, it's not perfect but certainly helps reduce engine and other noise. My real problem (and hence the four stars) is that the noise canceling function also inhibits good ventilation to the ear so extended use results in a pretty uncomfortable wear after a little while. You can probably get through a full length movie without too much trouble but anything after that is going to require that you take them off for a while or pull the ear covering away from your ear once and a while to create some ventilation. There's no way you'd survive a trans-continental or oceanic flight with these. To be fair, resolving this design flaw would likely compromise the noise reduction capabilities.
Ultimately, if you're looking for a good value for this type of product, I would recommend purchasing these headphones especially if you are only using them for relatively short periods of time. If, however, you want to wear them for long periods of time, you may want to sacrifice NC features for comfortability. These can get hot!

Simple, Beautiful, Quiet.......2007-10-12
This drive is a real beauty. I have an eSata connector on the back of my motherboard, and aside from having to get on the floor, and back up-which is even harder at my age, it went in easy as pie.
It is already formatted, Bios and Windows recognized it immediately. It is very fast. I capture and edit and render video for a living and this drive is in the 100mb/sec range on reads and writes. I test all my hardware.
I highly recommend it. Its also a great drive for those who have the DirecTV HR20 High Def DVR. You can buy this and basically triple the amount of space for recording movies.
