Plextor 810SA .......2007-08-28
My old Plextor 760A drive failed, and is being replaced by Plextor, but I use my CD/DVD drive daily, so I needed a replacement. Plextor's 810SA looked good, price was LESS than I paid for the 760A, and it was FASTER than the 760A, so I ordered one.
Drive works like a champ. Great speed burning all media - CDs, DVDs, and DVD-DL media all burned without any hitches
Only CAVEAT is that Plextor, for the first time (as far as I can recall) is NOT shipping any cables with this drive. All you get in the box is the Drive, a baggy with 4 mounting screws, and a DVD disk with the included software. You gotta buy a SATA data cable, and if your machine does NOT have a native SATA power plug, you need to also buy an power adapter.
Would have given it 5 stars except for the missing cable(s) AND the fact that when I eMailed Plextor tech support asking about what came in the box, I NEVER got a reply.

Plextor Drives Last.......2007-11-08
I built a new computer 1 1/2 yrs ago and put a less expensive Lite-on DVD burner in it. It reads but will not write any more. So I took out an Old Plextor CD burner that I had in my old Computer(8yrs old now) and put it in my new one, works great. So I ordered the Plextor 810-SA to replace the Lite-on and it works perfect. When or if either of my Plextor Burners go out , they will be replaced with another Plextor.
P.S. This has been my experience with Plextor, yours may differ. :-)

Cheap and reliable.......2007-11-19
I have had this drive for about 4 months. It burns reliably (though burning over 12x gets a bit funky). The Lightscribe is pretty nice to have, although it takes a while for jobs. I personally do not etch graphics to discs, since it takes up a lot of my time. So far, I have burned Sony, RiData, Memorex, and Verbatim (being the best, w/o failure).
I installed the drive into an external drive enclosure, without incident.
Just a word of caution, when burning to disc, the drive sounds like a propeller plane getting ready for take-off. The vibrations also make my computer desk to resonate a hum. No big deal, but it may for some.

It writes dvds just fine. I havent tried to make a lightscribe label with it yet though.
