Plextor Drives Last.......2007-11-08
I built a new computer 1 1/2 yrs ago and put a less expensive Lite-on DVD burner in it. It reads but will not write any more. So I took out an Old Plextor CD burner that I had in my old Computer(8yrs old now) and put it in my new one, works great. So I ordered the Plextor 810-SA to replace the Lite-on and it works perfect. When or if either of my Plextor Burners go out , they will be replaced with another Plextor.
P.S. This has been my experience with Plextor, yours may differ. :-)

I had read reviews of previous versions of the WD MyBook series drives being excessively loud. This 1TB (931GB actually) drive is very quiet, just a slight hum to it. I have an iMac with a 1TB drive and I am using this WD external for Time Machine under Leopard with FireWire 800. I have had it about a month and am very pleased so far. The front has a light bar that strobes or flashes depending on what the drive is doing. Some may find that annoying (for example if used in a bedroom). I'm not sure if this can be turned off. I have not tried the backup software that came on the drive.

Great product. I was concerned with compatibility issues since the disk is advertised mainly towards MacOS users, but after reformatting, following the online instructions, every went smoothly. So far I have only tested the Firewire 400, but am eager to know how faster can it perform with FW800.
