I am not an expert on sound systems but for this price, the sound quality is excellent. Keeps significant ambient noise out. Ear cups could have been a bit larger for more comfort, and I don't have large ears.
great sound but not much portable.......2007-12-23
With this type of headphones there's a trade between portability and sound. The passive noise cancelling works, and the grip is not tight... however if you use lenses and this headphones it's better to not use it for an extended period of time. The sound is excelent, bass, middle, treble all sound rich and pure. It's nice not to use a high volume just to hear music. This is my first Sennheiser headphones and it lives up to my expectations.
However this aren't that portable. If there's some backpack or other container it can be portable, but they don't fit in pockets and cann't be "folded" (like other Sennheiser headphones). The price is excelent too. If you're looking for noise cancelling and excelent portability try Etymotic's (or similar) in ear headphones with noise cancelling (...haven't try it personally).
Excellent Product for low price.......2007-12-23
The headphone is very good. The audio quality is very excellent. Bass is very deep and the audio is crystal crear. Every beat and even vocal sounds very clear. The headphones is very light and I can wear it for longer duration.
The only drawback is that it does not have volume control.
The shipping was very slow inspite of paying $7.80. Shipped on Dec 3rd and received on Dec 17th.(Estimated arrival date by Amazon was Dec 5 - 10th).
Overall I am happy with the headphones.

These headphones are by far the best headphones i have ever had.
I bought these for bus rides to school and these are great. They can easily hold up to be noise canceling in loud environments. You dont need to blast your ears with music to be able to hear these even in a plane or with, otherwise, loud ambience noise. Although you can most certainly blast them and not be worried about noise leak. As on a bus i could have my mp3 player turned up to near, if not, max and people around me, even someone sitting next to me, would not be able to understand what im listening to, they might hear some noise, but not understandable. They fit almost perfectly to my head, they are very light but still have a little weight to them so they will not just fall off. The ear cushioning are perfect. They will get pretty hot in the summer and sometimes annoying, but bearable. I live in NY so of course it gets cold and snows alot in the winter and the ear pieces are so warm you could just fall asleep. Sound quality is the best i have ever heard, even from $300 Bose, to these, the HD 202's are much better. Very nice bass, so much that you can feel it, but not to the point of being distorded even a tiny bit. The treble on these is a little too high, but with the bass the way it is, it definitely balances out. I notice a couple mids were flat, but i only noticed it with bands like Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth. Anything like acoustic or classical is so clear that you could imagine being there live but even better quality!
One minor thing was that they lasted about 7 months until it seemed like, out of nowheres the right cord pulled right out of the headphone. I did use them more than a regular person would use headphones for so maybe that was why. No matter what other people say, these headphones are by far the best of Sennheiser's HD 2XX series, and better than some top of the brand headphones.
Overall= 9.5/10
Just need a TINY bit of balancing on mids for more bassy music(Rap, Metal). Bass outweighs the mids a little bit. But i say it all depends on your EQ on your MP3 player and what your listenening too. Every band has their own sound.

Great set of headphones. bass is not muddied. Treble and mid highs are crystal clear. Well worth the investment. Compact and easy to wear, minimal fatigue after prolonged use.
