When engaged, NoiseGard active noise reduction drops steady-state low-frequency noise (from about 500 Hz and below) by 15 dB--which the human ear perceives as more than halving the noise--thus enhancing the clarity of your music. The noise reduction circuit requires 2 AAA batteries (not included), but the headphones work fine without the circuit engaged.
Sennheiser's fold and flip design lets you turn the ear pieces 90 degrees and fold the headphones closed. Their ported design lets them move more air for greater bass response.

Decent performance.......2007-12-26
The performnce is pretty good. During winter I have a constant hum of the heater furnace near my TV, so I wanted a noise cancelling headphone connected to the reciever when I am watching alone. This worked perfect for that. The furnace noise was almost 90% gone and the audio with the battery was excellent. I am happy with purchanse. The comfort was not bad. You can feel it pressing against ears after prolonged use - within an hour or so.
A couple of negatives. It is hard to handle this dangling rod. The audio without battery was just like my other cheaper headphones. I wish the rod was detachable and plain headphones had better performance.

These worked great on my recent trip on a plane. Canceled out the airplane noise so I could enjoy my iPod with great sound.I recommend them due to how well they work and the reasonable price compared to the Bose.

Great for travel or any situation where there is constant background noise.
The included adaptors work on various players, aircraft plug in systems, DVD players etc.
Lightweight, small and portable.
After I bought mine, I purchased several more for Christmas gifts.
They aren't cheap, but less than most and a good compromise.

I've been using my headphones on the subway for about a month now and they make a huge difference in my commute. I think that the sound reduction with the Bose are probably a little better, but for the price I'm quite satisfied. They are very comfortable to wear and it's nice that they come with the adapters for my surround sound system so I can watch a movie without bothering my family.
The drawbacks? They have very long lead wires and tend to get tangled a lot and, on occasion, they have some static hiss when the noise cancellation system gets 'confused' (for lack of a better word). It normally lasts a second or two and then goes back to normal.

I bought these headphones to use of long haul flights but discovered that they were only marginally effective at doing what they were supposed to do - at least on big jets.
I borrowed a passengers bose headphones and what a differences. I guess you get what you pay for.
