Good Isolation Earphones.......2007-12-07
I'm a professional musician(guitar). I bought these to use as a Personal Ear Monitor. I had used set of over-the-ear sound isolation headphones (Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphones) until they broke. I was looking for a less obtrusive alternative. I play right next to our drummer and these earphones shield my ears quite well.
The SE210's sound good but are lacking in bass. I ended up just adjusting the EQ and so that they sound good. I am also using them for my music listening when I am in noisy places.
I couldn't justify spending the money to buy the most expensive pair that Shure makes, and am very happy with what I received for my money.

I cannot recommend all of the Shure products enough. I used to own the Shure E2Cs which were excellent sound quality wise but a little uncomfortable in my ears and somewhat difficult to put in. After accidentally destroying my E2Cs, I was forced to use the original ipod headphones. The sound was horrible from every single aspect, and they seriously hurt my ears to wear. I decided to upgrade to the SE210s. I have but nothing less than thrilled with them so far. The sound quality is even better than the E2Cs and they are by far the most comfortable headphones I own. There is none of the muddy sound that one gets from other headphones and even full blown sound systems. The only caveat to my endorsement is that if you listen to a lot of bass heavy music you will be disappointed. This is not to say that the headphones do not accurately and correctly recreate the bass, but that it is not "thumping" bass. I listen to a wide variety of music including hip hop and have never been disappointed with bass on these headphones, it is clear and accurate the way I like it.

I prefer wearing on-ear phones, but for light travel and physical activity, only in-ears will do. Sorry, mom. These are very nice companions to my new iPod Classic.
I've never found any buds to be particularly comfortable, but these aren't too bad. The sound of the SE210 is excellent for the price. With the right fit, there's a satisfying amount of tight bass without drowning out other frequencies or having an overall unbalanced sound toward the low end. Mids are crystal clear and present. Highs are nice, but I'd prefer that the 12-16kHz range was just a tad more pronounced for material with nicely-produced cymbals and string instruments.
With some of my 256k CBR mp3's, I can hear encoding effects that I couldn't hear clearly with other phones and speakers, so I'm having to go back and re-rip some of my mp3's in 320k. That's a good thing, I think! I have little problem keeping the EQ preset set to 'off' with these.
Complaints about the bulky cable are valid in my opinion. I have a flip-top type leather case for my iPod and the cutout for the plug wouldn't clear the bulky connector with the included cable. Do yourself a favor like I did and get a lighter extension cable with a smaller end connector. Luckily, I had one lying around already.

You're gonna want these headphones, then. Not only are they made to travel, but they got every kind of fitting, for every kind of earhole(but keep in mind you will be sticking these in your ears, so use the cleaning tool with the headphone set regularly). The sound is some of the best I've heard, and has convinced me to go for the higher end models, once the means becomes available. No, it's not cheap, but as a musical explorer, I'd say they're worth every bright green buck you'll drop on buying it. I know I have no regrets in all the things I went through, just to get it(but I suspect most people won't travel 20 miles, just for an awesome set of headphones anyhow)

This is not the "last last" Sound Isolating Earphones from Shure, but if you are in a plane or in a noise place, its a perfect earphone to isolate you from the world.
Make a test: Play some music with your Shure SE210 and try to hear some else speaking. It's funny, you can not do that.

Need to find out if this is set for Master, Slave or Cable Select. I have a Toshiba which requires the firmware to be set for Master. Do you provide the firmware or do it before it is shipped?
