Spacious and Quick.......2007-09-10
I swapped a 200 GB hard drive out with this 160GB hard drive because it runs at 5400RPM. I am glad that I did. My notebook runs so much faster now. I have had toshiba hard drives in my notebooks before and I have never had a problem with them. In fact I highly recommend any computer equipment with the toshiba logo. As a whole when you buy Toshiba you are getting the most bang for your buck.

Adquirí este disco para actualizar mi Laptop Toshiba Satellite que vino originalmente con 80 Gb. La instalación es tan fácil que hasta un niño puede hacerla, basta con conectarlo y listo !. La Bios lo reconoció sin problemas y a pesar que es sólo de 5400 rpm hay que tener en cuenta que es S.A.T.A, lo cual compensa que no sea de 7200. Los driver tampoco fueron problema pues encontré SENDAS opciones en la webpage de Toshiba. Ahora mi laptop está trabajando a las mil maravillas y con el doble de espacio !. This product really deserves 0 stars. It is incredibly overpriced for what it is. And even at any price it's still no good.
This product is a real piece of crap. Not only the slow read/write speeds that others have mentioned, but file corruption as well!
Just about every file I have copied onto it has eventually become corrupt. And it doesn't take long. Just a few days for most files. What this means is that when you want to copy the file back - you can't. So not only do you lose the amount of space on this drive that the file took up, but you lose the file as well.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS AS A PRIMARY STORAGE DEVICE.
Terribly slow usb drive.......2007-10-26
I purchased one of these in April 2007 to replace my SanDisk 4GB U3 Cruzer that would not work with Vista. While the Transcend 8GB JetFlash V10 does work with Vista, it writes exceedingly slowly. I benchmarked the two Flash drives and came up with the following (Cruzer followed by V10):
Small File (1mb) Write: 2.391 - 6.532 seconds
Small File (1mb) Read: 0.672 - 0.938 seconds
Large File (10mb) Write: 17.656 - 22.594 seconds
Large File (10mb) Read: 6.813 - 6.281 seconds
File (20mb) delete: 0.110 - 1.953 seconds
Directory Lookup (10,000 files): 13.047 - 11.938 seconds
Overall Write Speed: 5,462 - 811 KB/second
Overall Read Speed: 31,723 - 30,883 KB/second
Overall, the read speeds are comparable, but the write speed on the V10 is significantly slower. Slow enough in fact, that the V10 is not fast enough to support Vista's ReadyBoost although at least it works as a Flash Drive in Vista while the older U3 Cruzer doesn't work at all with Vista (newer U3 Cruzers are Vista compatible - be sure the firmware is recent).
awesome flash drive...a must have!.......2007-10-12
I've had this drive for almost a year now and it was one of my best buys ever. It's very sturdy and hasn't even scratched up or (like I was afraid of) stopped functioning correctly in regards to the slider. Every time I go to use the drive at college, other students think it's an awesome little drive just because of the in and out sliding USB connection. I do most of my school work from home and it's mostly huge graphics or video files. This drive is just perfect for even the biggest files I ever need to transport. If your sick of not having enough room on your 1GB drive this is the way to go. Like I said, I've had it for almost a year and I'm good to my equipment, but I haven' hesitated to just throw this in my bag. And it's still running strong. It's no bigger than the usual Flash drive, even though it's 8GB. If you're looking for a Flash drive...get this one. You won't regret it!

I bought this in March 2007 and was pleasantly surprised by the fast shipping. The device works great. I am a little bummed it doesn't have the U3 software loaded on it to run Skype and other programs from the device.
If you are looking for a good storage device...you can't beat the price on this one.

Of course the drive has large capacity. But it is the SLOWEST USB 2.0 flash drive I have ever used. It took over 2 hours to transfer 4 GB of small photo files from my hard drive to the JetFlash, with no other applications running in the computer
