WARNING: Only supports writing 25 GB (not 50GB)........2007-08-01

The Philips marketing material and most online reviews describe the SPD7000BD writer as supporting dual-layer Blu-ray (50 GB). However, when I received my unit it was clearly labeled as only supporting single-layer Blu-ray (25 GB).

I contacted Philips support and they told me "The drive is able to read a Dual Layer disc, but it is only capable of writing to the single layer Blu-Ray disc. The hardware is not able to burn to a Dual layer 50GB disc, so no firmware update will enable that feature."

That seems fairly clear. It is rather unfortunate that the online product literature is leaving the impression that the SPD7000BD writer "supports" 50 GB disks. It only allows reading.

The drive seems to works reasonably as a 25 GB single-layer Blue-ray writer.

The product includes the "Cyberlink BD Solution" CD/DVD/BD creation and burning software. The included version supports XP. You can buy an upgrade to get a vista-certified version.

Wanted it for the motor home and for that, it was great. Expense of ink sort of negated by the fact that I never used up the ink in my other printer before it went bad.

So far I am happy with the printer results (not had it long but used a color cartridge already) BUT I HAVE TWO CRITICISMS
1. The printer did not come supplied with a USB cable so I could not test it until I went to a store to but one. I did not have much time to waste so it was very challenging and I think it is a crazy policy not to make it compatible at the get go
2. I wanted a battery too but it was not clear to me if the battery advertised was compatible as I could not understand how it was connected. Een when I looked at the battery specification it did not describe how to use it. I eventually found a review which says it is attached at the back and uses two screws.I can only guess which screws so it is still not completely defined for me to decide to make this purchase without risk.
Could be better and made clearer by showing the attachment to a printer?

My printer arrived, minus two critical components: 1) no usb cable--nice if manufacturer told me--I could have at least ordered one right away, and 2) no color ink cartridge. Printer doesn't work without it (obviously). So here I sit. Easier just to go to Best Buy and purchase one than to screw around with Amazon or Canon. I'm very displeased with the unnecessary hassles.

This is a very cool product. It is as small as a large book and prints incredibly sharp pictures very fast. For people on the go who need to print, I highly recommend it. Easy to install, USB.

Misleading Model Number.......2007-12-16

Be aware the description on this item is incorrect. It shows model WDH1CS5000N which is for the 3 type Connection (eSata, firewire and USB). However what you will receive is the Home Office Model which only has a USB connection.

On the my book web site they say that the Office edition comes with backup software.

They forget to mention this is a trial version.

Even after you buy it you can only use it on one computer, so much for the 'Office' aspect.
