Relatively good sound quality...but...very poorly designed in the sense that everyone and their dog can hear your music as well. If you want privacy these headphones are not for you. People half way across the room can hear the music leaking out of your headphones. It really sucks! Wish I had known that before spending $70 or so on these headphones.
The Ant-i-Grado.......2007-11-15
To begin with, let's establish context: these will be used most commonly for listening to MP3s. Given the nature of this format, music can only sound so good. No cans on the planet can make MP3s sound as good as the original source.
In terms of sound reproduction, the iGrados are respectable enough. The sound is what you generally would expect from a Grado product and can be improved further with minor modifications. Bass is fine, mids are good and the highs are certainly there too.
Unfortunately, context is everything and in the case of listening to scaled down iTunes, using Grados might be a bit like using a monster truck to go over speed bumps. The iGrados, however, are no monster truck.
First, the sound leakage is astonishing. Those who happen to be on the same bus or train as you will have the joy of hearing essentially what you hear, minus the bass. It really is that bad. Second, if they don't stare at you while wondering how long it will be before you go completely deaf, they'll wonder why you are wearing such a ridiculous looking pair of headphones. Catch your reflection in a shop window with these on and you'll know what I mean. Third, one would expect Grado to adhere to certain standards with regards to materials, construction and design. When examining the iGrados, one wonders if they even wanted to make these or if they farmed out the project to China. The wires are thinner than those on the factory iPod ear buds and the finish looks to be of the cheapest plastic. In addition, they cannot be adjusted. These are a one-size-fits-some design and many people have complained about ear fatigue. My set didn't even come with a manual touting the product's virtues.
You don't get the impression Grado Labs are particularly proud of this product. Even the Grado website goes out of its way in referring to these as "entry-level" headphones, almost begrudgingly offering them to the market. The branding is even limited to the back of the neckband; no Grado branding on the side of the "cans".
That said, I will keep them but limit them to use at home on my computer and will most likely rewire them once the warranty expires. Would I recommend them? I would say that if you don't mind massive sound leakage, economical construction and quirky design, these are at least as good as most similar products designed for MP3 listening (which doesn't say much). But I would stress that you should not expect your music to come alive. It may sound marginally better, but it won't be a transcendent experience - not by a long shot.
Judged against Grado's standards, I give them 1 star. Judged against similar products in this segment, I give them 3.5.
Amazing and inexpensive.......2007-10-21
I bought my dad these and purchased Panasonic RP-HTX7 cans for myself... I wish I had gone with these for just $10 more! The Panasonics are inexpensive and well built, but these iGrado's are as good as the SR-60s-- maybe even the SR-90's.

At this price range, particularly for headphones designed for portability, I haven't heard anything that had the detail these do. The bass is quite powerful and I heard vocals like never before from my iPod. The ear clips keep the drivers snug to your ear, unlike other neckband style phones I've used. Some may not like this, but to me it's a good thing because it ensures stronger bass transmission to your ear and overall better detail. Despite the snugness, they're quite comfortable.
The only cons are that the neckband is not very bendable, and as other reviews have mentioned what appears to be pivoting joints where the band connects to the cans is really just a bulky connector. These are very leaky headphones, so if you're listening even at medium volume in a quiet room you will be sharing fairly well with others. The cord material also feels somewhat flimsy and could stand to be a stiffer rubber. I had an issue with the cord snagging on something and there being a tear, something that hasn't happened in similar scenarios with other cans. Still, for the price, you can't beat these in terms of sound quality.

but barely. I had to try it 4 or 5 times and clean the laser lens before I actually got it to play a cd. It has a weird quirk where when I put a cd into the tray, it suddenly disconnects from my computer. That and it only plays half the stuff I put into it. Well... less than half at this point, but it like I said, it works... sometimes...
