The Grado SR80 Headphone delivers more powerful sound and a unique design. They operate on a vented diaphragm design that incorporates a large air chamber, for a lower frequency resonance (distortion) & extended bass response. The 4 conductor connecting cable and larger ear cushions give a more open stage, for better bass resonance. If you strive for the very best listening experience, then Grado is the way to go. Pretty good........2007-12-20
I like 'em. I had to buy an extension cord at Radio Shack; so that's a demerit. I mostly use them to watch TV when the eight-year old goes to bed. They have good bass response and are comfortable.
Great addition to your iPod.......2007-11-25
With the advent of our digital world, the effort required to produce decent sound has become easier. Sure, audiophiles will tell you the iPod contains anything but quality sound, but for the average music loving American, its convenience and sheer number of tracks makes it a modern marvel. The iPod's earbuds, however, are lacking. I set out to find a decent pair of on-the-ear headphones that would squeeze every bit of ones and zeros I could get without spending hundreds of dollars. It didn't take very long for Grado to appear the front runner with it's highly praised, no nonsense products. I spent my $90 or so, and eagerly awaited the package. These headphones, I believe, can't be beat for the money. They give a clean uncolored sound with surprisingly great bass response. They are an over the ear design, so you will notice you have them on. After a while, their light weight helps you forget about them. If you own an iPod or like to listen to audio from your computer, or just want a great pair of headphones for the money, look no further!! The Grado SR80s are fantastic.
Best Sound for the Money.......2007-11-17
The Grados SR-80 are some GREAT audiophile headphones. They retail for around $100 and are great for hard rock or metal music. I've had these for over a year and I absolutely love them. The bass is very good for headphones and you can hear every detail in the music. Grados are American made headphones so you know you're getting some durable headphones. One thing I don't like about the Grados SR-80s is the comfort level. The drivers actually push against your ears and the earpads arn't very comfortable, they are made of a type of "scratchy" foam. After about an hour of use they cause discomfort, but usually by then I take them off and take a break for 10 minutes or so. One other disadvantage is these are open-eared headphones, which means anyone can hear what you are listening to. These wouldn't be very good for use in public. Overall I'd highly recommend the SR-80s to anyone looking for high quality headphones to listen to rock or metal.
Good but not durable headphones.......2007-06-15
I have owned a pair of these headphones for several years now, and the sound is just fine for the money. Nothing jaw-dropping, but good, neutral sound.
What's not so great is the foam used for the cushions that fit against your ears. After 2-3 years the foam dries out/rots and crumbles, leaving black crumbs on everything it touches. I've bought replacement foam cushions once, and my replacement pair has disentegrated as well (I was hoping they would improve the formula, but alas no).
Also the plastic frame surrounding /holding the phones has cracked on one side of headphones. I'm pretty gentle with my audio gear, using it around the house mostly, and I was suprised to see this happen.
I wouldn't buy another pair of SR80s, because I use headphones only occassionally and expect them to last many years. If I used them daily and expected to wear them out in 2-3 years, I might buy another pair.
Update: I'm now using homemade earpads inspired by those described on headwize-dot-com. I removed the foam pads and with the help of a pair of black cotton socks and a couple of rubber bands, I have something that works. These pads are about the same in terms of comfort as the foam originals--for me, either is fine for a 45 minutes and beyond that the phones begin to feel uncomfortable. It's good to take a rest between albums anyway, your ears need it.
Braking the Grado Mystique, Sort of..........2007-06-10
Yes, everything they say about the Grado SR80 is true. It has bass, but not overbearing, just there and just right. It puts you not in the front of musicians, but right in the middle. It has clarity etc.
BUT, it became un-listenable to me mainly because of the imaging. Things sounded out of place, especially voices. They became too centered and overbearing. It just seemed to push instruments aside and out of the way.
Some examples are Johnny Cash's Boy Named Sue, the drum rift I liked so much seem to come from the top of my head with Cash's voice taking center stage and the rythm of the drums seem to lose their tempo and sounded somewhat "sratchy". Alive n Kicking's one hit wonder Tighter, Tighter voice imaging became completely like mono as the Grado put the male/female voice tagging in the left/right earcup decisivly. I never heard it like that before!
It also could be because the Grado is suppose to be harmonically accurate. If this is true, then kudos, but I could not listen to my songs that way. I also know that songs are "miked" a certain way and Grado is just accurately reflecting that possibly. It is also quite possible that these headphones were really made for jazz, voice, instrumentals or orchestra music. I mainly listen to top 40. I admit some pop songs sounded good, mainly those recorded recently.
That brings me to another praise of this headphones. That they are supposedly better than listening to speakers. Well, no matter how I tried it still sounded like they are coming between my head and no further. Try as might I could not say I was ever listening to speakers.
Finally, the construction of the shell is of cheap plastic. Complete with plastic spurs showing where they snap them off the "trees". Possibly inside, where it counts might be better made. I never looked.
CONCLUSION: It is quite possible that the mystique of Grado lies in it's supposedly non-resonance design. Could this accomplishment by Grado of non-resonating headphones make it become just a huge sound "magnifier" somehow? Instead of sounding like the band was 20 feet away, you are now 0 feet away without having to turn the volume up which people take as some kind of mystique?

Wondeful Printer!.......2007-12-24
I have had this printer for about a month. The output is crisp and clean. The over-sized prints I have done (up to 13x19) have all gotten "wows" when they have been displayed. The print quality is the best I have seen in an ink-jet. As others have mentioned, it is hungry for ink, but when you enter a high end printer your gonna pay a premium. You get what you pay for. Ink is still hard to find, but this model is still fairly new. I can almost always get the ink at staples off the shelf. So if your looking for a serious over-sized printer... this is the one.
Great printer for everything.......2007-11-09
I've only had this printer for about a month, but so far it has lived up to my expectations with Epson. I've owned a half dozen Epson printers in the past and currently own 3. I was looking for a printer to make 11x14 to 12x18 prints and this one was priced right. So far the prints have been superior and the printer easy to set up and use. My only complaints are: 1) It uses a great deal of inks, especially the light cyan, light magenta, and yellow. The specs said it was easy on inks, but I'm not finding that true. 2) The inks are expensive (as usual) but I can only get them from Epson store. Epson does have specials and when I get 10% off and free shipping, I usually take advantage of it. All in all I would recomend this printer to anyone needing a larger format without the larger price tag. I've tried HP and Canon and find them good printers, but I have found the Epson line of printers superior.
Epson Stylus 1400/Epson Customer Service Apathy.......2007-10-10
We purchased this printer for immediate use on an important report. We had it shipped overnight and when it arrived we, after setting it up, discovered that one of the new ink cartridges was defective. After talking to a barely intelligible customer service rep he agreed to send us a replacement cartridge. I informed him that we really needed this part expedited. He assured me that it would be shipped FedEx. It was; FedEx GROUND. It took over a week. We couldn't wait so we bought one at Amazon.
Indifference reigns at Epson!
Excellent Printer.......2007-10-03
I like this printer because you can print on paper up to 13" by 19". You can buy refills for each color which saves money. Very good color. Best price at Amazon that I found.
It does more than it is touted to do.......2007-10-02
The 1400 gives me the prints that I am looking for and is easily calibrated to the color I see on my monitorIt tends to print some what darker than the monitor but knowing that it is easy to compensate for . The colors are true
