This drive is too easy to lose! Beware of bad design..........2004-08-24
I had mine for 1 week before it fell off the keychain shell and is now lost with my data. It is not permanently attached to the swivel shell. Only buy this if you are NOT going to take it with you. Also, record the serial number which is on the drive itself so that they may replace it for you if you do lose it. The barcode is useless and the s/n is not anywhere else.

This wonderful product is my "insurance" against data loss. Making a back-up is so simple and fast with FireWire, I do it frequently. Takes only a couple of minutes to save many gigs of data. The capacity is large enough for multiple back-ups for our three Macs.

Worked great for a year and crapped-out on the 13 month. I can not recommend. Even turned it off when not in use. Not sure where it went wrong.

I've been using this drive for about a year as a backup drive for my PowerBook and (on a separate partition) as a place to store my iTunes library. It has been completely reliable, it runs quietly, and access times are more than adequate. The backups have been handled by SuperDuper!, an excellent program (the Lacie backup program is a bit limited and SuperDuper! is well worth the modest cost).

If you are one of those millions of computer users who still back up their data on DVDRs, I have a message for you. The time has come to pick up one of these affordable, easy to use external hard drives. I have been very impressed with how simple and functional this device is. It works very well with ANY backup software, so don't feel like you have to use the one that comes with it. Also, you may want to shop around because I picked mine up for $80 at the local CompUSA.
LACIE DRIVES FAIL BADLY.......2007-06-14
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Lacie is a PITIFUL PRODUCT. A DISASTER. A FARCE. AN IRRELEVANT, GLORIFIED PAPER WEIGHT. Every single Lacie drive I have owned (4) has crashed, taking with them LOTS of valuable data along the way. I'm a video editor, I use many brand names of external hard drives. WESTERN DIGITAL is the way to go. I promise you.
