Super.fi 5 pro's.......2007-12-25
This is my first pair of canal phones but I have tried others via friends. These have rich bass, as well as vocals.. I am extremely pleased with the sound quality, but cosmetics could be better.. they are bulky, and not entirely visually pleasing. They remind me of a tank compared to the stylish Q-jays. But As previously stated, the sound quality is top knotch. I recommend these to anybody that uses their MP3 player a lot, and willing to throw over 100$ into canal phones.

I got the Super.fi 5 Pro and the SE530 and I am having a tough time deciding which I like more. From all I have read the SE530 should be the clear winner, but I have not heard it that way.
The 5 Pro was so pleasing. When I got them in I loved how secure they fit, and the sound was awesome. The first time I started listening, I was caught smiling stupidly by my co-worker and had to explain everything. These earphones just delivered the music in a whole new way compared to anything I had listened to up to that point (stock earbuds, custom molded Challengers from Precision Labs, SE110, SE210).
The 530's perhaps sound a little better. So difficult to tell and I am swapping them in and out in different environments trying to discern each little detail. And I find myself grabbing the Super.fi 5 and wanting to keep them in my ears for some reason. I love the moldable section that loops over the ear.
I will say that the UE Superfi 5 Pro does not have anything over the 530's, but rather my complaint is that the tubes are larger in diameter and they lack the foam inserts. So for that I will probably stick with the 530's because I can keep them in my ears longer and with less pain. I am certainly not missing anything with the SE530 except weight in my wallet. Sonically they deliver all the UE 5 have and more with only one question; is it worth @$200 more?
No. I would absolutely be satisfied with the Super.fi 5 Pro if I didn't have to stuff and wedge the rubber tip in my left ear which is smaller than my right. I cannot tolerate that any longer so I must go with the Shure SE530 and the compressible expanding foam which are much friendlier to my ear canals.
Although the SE530 did not elevate my listening level to a new plane over the Super.fi 5, the quality is fantastic and they go into my ear without creating pain.
I am sad for 2 things:
1. That the diameter of the UE 5 was too large for me to comfortably take advantage of a product that delivers such great sound quality nearly rivaling a top tier product at a far from top tier price (consumers dream) and
2. Now that it matters, re-ripping my CD collection to improve the sound quality of music files is incredibly time consuming.

I have owned this product for 1 month and I am very pleased with these earphones. Excellent audio quality as long as you take the time to fit them to your ears properly, there are 5 pair of different rubber/foam ear pieces to accomplish this. Sometimes I use some EQ on my iPod and sometimes not, depending on my mood. Walking on the treadmill listening to ZZ Top greatest hits take 2 with the EQ set to R&B is pretty much da bomb for me. Does need to be "cranked up" a little to be appreciated fully. Sounds very much like my well equalized tri-amped PA system in a personal form factor.

Whenever you read a review about a luxury item, it's important to remember that most of the respondents have committed themselves to the idea that the product is good. They can't bear the thought that what they got isn't actually worth the price they paid.
This product I think stands out as a shining example of that pattern.
First thing I noticed out of the box is that these are not ear buds, by any stretch of the imagination. These 'earphones' are huge. I mean, truly, freakishly huge. There's a reason all of the PR pictures show them on a white background, or show the wearer in profile. It hides how massive these monsters are. They are in fact so heavy that they included a stiff wire in the first 2 inches so you can HOOK THEM OVER YOUR EAR to keep them from falling out!
The 'small' ear cones that come with these are the size of most other brands' 'medium' cones. I'm over 6", I have a pretty big head, and with the standard cones these headphones stick out so far that I look like a clown (if you use the small cones, or wear the headphones backwards, this effect is reduced greatly). There are two sets of cones bigger than these. I can't imagine who they're intended for. Linebackers?
Even the stereo jack is oversized. If you expected to use this with your iPod nano, know that your player will no longer lie flat on a surface.
Then you get past all that, and get to what's really matter - the sound. Everyone who tells you these headphones are just the best sound they've ever heard is lying to you, or already has their Equalizer set to compensate for their crappy old headphones. With a level EQ, the bass response is much worse than my old $50 Fontopia head phones, and the high end is blown out of all proportion. All you can hear in rock songs is the backup singers' breath, the guitarists fingers on the strings, and the scritching of the drum. The treble is so loud you find yourself listening to the background sounds instead of the music. 'Distracting' doesn't begin to describe it. The overall effect is as if you were listening to an outdoor concert held at the base of a waterfall.
Only when you set your EQ to 'treble reduce' is the sound somewhat balanced. And remember that on many portable devices, setting the EQ at anything other than level (aka 'off') will reduce your playback time.
Save your money, or buy someone else's. I feel robbed.

These are the regular unshielded s-video cables you can get in the bargain bin of any electronics store. I bought it to connect my computer to my TV, but the EMI is too much - there are waves of noise moving horizontally across the screen. I have a decent brand name power supply (Thermaltake, $40, 420W) and I've tried using other s-video cables. I bought this to replace a non-gold plated s-video cable that was also suffering from EMI. To my surprise, this cable actually performs worse than my old one. I also connected a 3 foot non-gold plated s-video cable that I received with my video card (after I grudgingly moved my compter away from my workdesk). That doesn't suffer from any EMI, though that's probably because of its short length. EMI might be less for things like DVD players or cable boxes however, since they don't use so much power. I recommend higher quality, shielded cables for pc to tv/vcr/av receiver connections.
